I have a hard time believing Froch is 168 in the ring, not to mention between fights. You have any source on this?
I can remember at least 4 times that Eubank was down. The first fight with Nigel Benn. Admittedly It did look as much a slip as a punch but a count was given by the ref. Michael Watson had him down in their second fight and Joe Calzaghe knocked him down twice in their title fight.
I'm probably mistaken on this as it seems so long ago but back when Eubank, Benn and the rest were fighting each other, didn't they still have weigh ins on the actual day of the fight?
Eubank knockdowns were all balance or exhaustion(watson rematch) oriented, i'm not sure i ever really saw him hurt much from a punch.
Huge Greg George shoved him over into the ropes, as did Steve Collins with his push to the body in first fight. Froch has stated many times he walks around at his fighting weight. The same-day weigh-in was stopped after the Eubank-Watson II tragedy. Eubank would starve himself of food and water for days on end to make weight.
Thompson outsized him a lot if memory serves. Chris is a level above Carl in most things but could be lazy/crazy and out worked. Both at their respective bests Chris would win pretty easily.
With enormous difficulty most of the time. Didnt help himself by trying to do most of it in the last week. I always felt Eubank fought up or down to the level of the competition, and the Eubank that would turn up for this one would have comfortably too much for Froch. UD, probably 116-112
Ok. But where is it said that he comes in to the ring at 168? Because most of his opponents will be around 180 in the ring, give or take a couple of pounds, and he doesn't look small compared to them. Hell, if he's 168 in the ring he's smaller than Canelo. He could make WW if he really wanted to. Margarito and Clottey were around that weight in the ring as welters.
I like Eubank here. Eubank had solid skills and Froch can always be out-boxed, and he won't be getting that come from behind KO against Eubank.
Eubanks was also floored in an early career fight by Acton's Gregory George, if memory serves I think this was at the Wembley Conference Centre.
Chávez jr is just as big in frame as eubank and he could make 160 ¡ , and he was clearly a natural 175 - 180 pounder, just like foreman a natural 230. Could weigh 217 ¡ or Michael moorer a natural 200 pounder could make 175
I don't really get how everyone can be so confident in picking Eubank. I mean, he looked better, but so does a lot of fighters. Who did he beat to prove that he was a level above Froch? He was never the best supermiddle in the world. Froch is fighting the top names in the division, Eubank didn't.
Looking at his son last night, it did bring back a few memories of Eubank. Personally I think Froch would outwork him.
Froch has never been the best supermiddle in the world. Eubank proved his ability and toughness up to cruiserweight. Must count for something?
