Joe Calzaghe " resembles " Joe Louis in a physical sense ( if you like ) far more than he resembles Tyson, and particularly the brothers Klitchko. I really don't care but your outraged statement about the stupid thread being ANTI Louis is way OTT.

I'll say again, the OVERWHELMING majority of voters have gone for Joe Louis in a h2h. That is being realistic, it is definitely NOT anti Joe Louis.

Before conn fought louis, conn fought and beat a number of heavyweights before challenging joe. Conn had an iron chin, great ring smarts and was a great bodypuncher.

In addition to beating conn, louis also koed bob pastor in a title fight. Pastor was a quick handed, well schooled fighter.

    Louis would ko calzaghe.

I don't see what's so offensive about it. 169lb Conn was one of Louis' most storied wins, yet it's out of the question for Louis to be matched with another similar-sized fighter? Calzaghe would be a light-heavy or small heavy in Louis' era. It's not out of the question that they could have ended up meeting, just as Conn and Louis did.

Cal weighed 168 .. that is a small light heavyweight in Louis' time as well .. the debate is not if a fight could have been made but if so the outcome ..

The difference is that Conn had a resume at heavyweight to constrain the prediction (if they had never fought), while Calzaghe doesn't.

calzague would ko louis, a thread about prime pacquiao vs john henrry lewis would be interesting, a turtle vs a desk or a bed vs a cat

    So did my auntie.

You still need to find something on his resume, that makes this question worth asking in the first place.

He weighed 168 at the weigh-in. He'd have been in the 170s by the time he stepped in the ring and higher still when he actually moved up.

You asked above if Calzaghe will be matched with Tyson or Klitschko on here. To my knowledge, neither ever fought a Calzaghe-sized opponent. Louis did, which at least makes it a plausible match-up, besides being a good demonstration of how the division has changed in recent decades. It's hardly an affront to Louis, even if the result is predictable.

    Sure they did.

The only difference is that they fought in an era, where a Calzaghe sized opponent could bulk up.

Spinks and Byrd, were basically Calzaghe sized opponents, with the aid of maximuscle.
