    Geale isn't elite, if he is then Maidana is. Gamboa also not an elite LW so not that good a win for Crawford.

    Vargas has to be up there with Inoue, Tanaka and Beterbiev as the break out fighter of the year. Great year for the guy but for me he's lacking the top tier win. Good call though

    Think about it for a second. Crawford beat:
    Burns who is a joke.
    Gamboa who hasn't looked good in years and was moving up in weight.
    And Beltran a decent gatekeeper.

    Kovalev's one victory over Hopkins is better than everything Crawford accomplished this year.

    So at the moment I think my list goes something like this (highly debatable among each of them, as the theme this year seems to be "one good win" among all the top candidates):

    1. Terence Crawford / 3-0, 1 KO / Burns, Gamboa, Beltran / won RING/WBO 135 titles

    2. Roman Gonzalez / 4-0, 4 KO / Yaegashi, Fuentes, Kantun, Purisima / won Lineal/WBC 112 titles

    3. Manny Pacquiao / 2-0 / Bradley II, Algieri / won WBO 147 title

    4. Sergei Kovalev / 3-0, 2 KO / Hopkins, Agnew, Caparello / unified IBF/WBA 175 titles

    5. Amnat Ruenroeng / 3-0 / Ioka, Fuentes, Arroyo / won IBF 112 title

    *. Nayoa Inoue / 2-0, 2 KO / Hernandez, Kokietgym / won WBC 108 title

    * If Inoue beats Omar Narvaez in solid fashion then he will leapfrog to the top spot in the final 48 hours of the calendar year.

    I gotta go with Kovalev off of that Hopkins performance. Guy made the lineal champ run from him, wiped out a hall of famer and had two brutal ko's in his other two fights.
    Crawford had three very good wins, but Burns is not elite and should have lost to Beltran, Gamboa is and decline and was too small.
    Gonzalez is a dark horse.
    Manny already beat Bradley so that win loses luster and Algeri was hyped up to be better than he is. Good win but in a year where you only fight twice it's not a great win.
