I miss the preponderance of nicknames in boxing.

It always used to add to the colour and mystique of a fighter.

Where are the new "lights out" or "bonecrusher" not to mention "2nd to" or "the body snatcher".

The 3 big fights over the last two weekends, only Tony Bellew is usually referred to as "bomber".

If Cleverly, BJS, CEJ or Fury actually have nicknames they can't be very memorable..........oh and "Del Boy" is a **** nickname, no matter how often Steve B*nce says it!

    Any other favourites?

There is still loads who use it.

    Chunky De Gale
    St George Groves.
    Mundo Smith.

Only for the last few weeks there is more just not for everyone i suppose.

Of the British ones, some of my favourites would include:

    Bomber Graham/Bruno

    Chris P Bacon

    Big Bad James Oyebola

    Boom Boom Minter

    The Mighty Atom Jimmy Wilde

I liked it when cutie Fidel Castro Smith went by the alias Slugger O'Toole

But sometimes they do not work, eh Lennie The Lion Lewis?!

I always thought Iron Boy was cool

Don't know why, probably 'cas Calderon was so tiny but was undefeated for so long, it just seemed so fitting in an ironic way

John 'the beast' Mugabi is my fav. It rolls off the tongue

Back in the amateur days my mate was nicknamed 'canvas back', as in Phil 'canvas back' Smith, which made me smile.
