TR/HBO very disappointed in Pac-ALgeri PPV numbers

ppv trends are down, either people are sick of feeling ripped off, streaming or both.

 

Thats because they are trying to sell stars, not fights.

 

No one gave a **** about that fight and no one cares now.

I agree it's a good thing because they will try harder to make the fight. The flip side is that the low numbers can be used to make a case for low balling and dissuading the fight to be made. At least they will make a better fight next time, hopefully.

Algeiri's trainer- You see what's happening, these ppv numbers are getting tired...

 

They never release it, not since years ago when Arum got mad. Iole, fat Dan etc usually have close to realistic estimates, i'd wait for those before going all in with the ****s info. It definitely could have flopped, Top Rank was asking for it.

But really if this is an excuse to not fight Pac then I have no respect for Mayweather or his groupies.

 

Preach. Although I don't agree with it at all. I mean when we 'be got Cleverly Vs Bellew in PPV then you know something had gone dramatically wrong.

 

What is wrong with half you people? Are you boxing fans or TV fans???

I couldn't care less how many people watched what, it's a weird thing amongst boxing fans which I don't see to the same degree in other sports. No idea why it happens though.

 

I dont think most really care how big a ppv seller a fighter may be. But it certainly a topic for discussion in that Pacquiao getting low numbers mean Mayweather has the right to demand a bigger cut than what Pacquiao could have previously gotten had his ppv buys not flopped vs Algieri.

The thing with Pacquiao and Mayweather is that both of their PPV fights have come to sell less over the last couple of fights, just Pacquiao's numbers have dropped lower than Mayweather's.

 

I'll tell you three fighters I would never pay to see, even if the price was dirt cheap and that's Khan, Froch, and Brook.

 

Lol.....I could have told you this. It was t going to do what his fight with Tim Bradley or the rematch with Floyd and Miadana. No one knows Algeri. I'm expecting a half a million.... Maybe a little more.

 

If this fight does below 500k PPV buys, Maybe Mayweather has another excuse to not fight Pacquiao.

Because Mayweather fought BIG PPV Stars in Maidana 2x & Guerrero.

As for those people who comment on having a discussion about numbers at all, yeah I think it is a good thing when fights that shouldnt be PPV do not do well. Some disagree and say supporting PPV is supporting boxing.. but I dont see it that way. Most of the PPV purse these days goes to the A-side fighter. You arent supporting the "sport" buy buying subpar PPV, you are mostly subsidizing one guy.

Nothing against the PPV star who can get the payday. Its not about a question of deserving it, or anything like that. Its just a simple matter that as long as people buy **** fights, the A-side fighters and/or their promoters will put on **** fights. This is certainly not just a matter for PAC.

As far as I am concerned, boxings top "stars" who with the exception of Canelo are basically just holding onto some PPV momentum from the 00's have worn out their welcome until and unless they are fighting tough top shelf fights.

We see from declining numbers that the buying public over time is growing tired of dishing out PPV money for the product being offered. SHO and HBO both, and affiliated promoters arent even putting out numbers anymore. Yet the matches people want to see dont get made, because enough people still buy into the dross.

Supporting bad PPV isnt supporting boxing, its detrimental to it.
