Mikey Garcia coming back early next year.. He's better than Crawford

He's coming back at a catchweight between 137-140 and he will choose whether he wants to settle in at 135 or 140...

Mikey lost all that momentum he had in that great 2013 run. Not sure how well he does moving up in weight, honestly.

As for if he's better than Crawford. Who knows? I'd pick Crawford if they fought each other next up, that's for sure.

I don't make much of it, but Terence Crawford did beat Mikey Garcia in the amateurs back in 2006; 18-7.

 

Garcia would be making a mistake if he moved to 140 IMO. He fought even more tentatively than usual against Burgos due to getting rocked early on IMO, and was also knocked down against Martinez. He shouldn't skip over 135 if he moves up at all or he might find himself in a Mares situation.

 

Exactly or the Donaire/Gamboa situation. Those guys get lazy making the lower weights and a bit over confident and then they lose it the higher weight classes and look ordinary.

 

Why Garcia would go straight to 140? Seriously

yep. Pac cleaned out the 147 division when it was smoking hot now he will clean out the 140 division when it gets smoking hot.

 

Agreed that he should not skip 135. Super talent, Mikey. I enjoy watching him fight. He would have his work cut out to beat Crawford though. Crawford is a classy operator.

 

I'm a Mikey fan but Crawford just has more tools in the ring....and there's something about Crawford that Mikey just doesn't have, some kind of competitive fire

 

Hope these two stick around 135 for a few fights to put things in order. Obviously would be great if they fought each other but also linares and Figueroa would be excellent fights to clean up the division (though Figueroa is potentially moving up, oh and there is that nobody from the money team that has a belt). Also if it is done off television one of these top guys should take out abril

 

Mikey is a great talent, he just doesn't care to be a boxer. He only does it because his family expects him to do it. He has said this in interviews, he only views boxing as a job.

If he had the desire and fire to be great, he could go on to be special. I am a fan of Mikey, so this approach to the game does worry me a bit. I think he matches up well with Crawford, but his penchant for lower yet more accurate activity would do him in. He would give up to many rounds to Crawford and end up on the losing side of a decision. Unless he catches Crawford with something he doesn't see coming and knocks him out.
