To be clear, I'm not saying it was fixed but you can bet that "playing the villain" in the scripted build up was not Victor Ortiz's doing... and he was sh*tty at it. It wasn't a cheap shot either...jesus they hugged and kissed like 5 times. Why a ref looks away after signalling them to fight is either horrendously stupid or straight WWE garbage.. How does a professional boxer not have instincts to block/move/do anything when he gets punched in the face and just stand there with his hands down? There was a delay in between the punches that Ortiz could have reacted. I won't say it's fixed...but it just didn't seem right.
Prior to the final sequence, what did Joe Cortez do wrong? Including the final sequence, what exactly did Joe Cortez do that was wrong? If you don't like the way it ended, that's fine. But to say that the ref caused anything to happen that is out of the rules is just foolish in my opinion.
:tired He never called time in Neither fighter was at their corner He allowed tree and floyd to make out in the middle of the ring. Just a disaster. I don't blame Floyd for doing what he did, cortez should of had control of the fight. For people saying Floyd's fights are fixed, quit being fan boys lol.

Only one person in the ring didn't do their job within the rules and that person is Victor Ortiz. He motioned with his hand and said "Let's go" to both fighters. That is calling "time in." You can clearly see and hear it in any broadcast of the fight.
Cheap shot, bad refereeing, dirty fight, BS KO, Ortiz could have got up but quit... Whatever you want to say about this fight to discredit Floyd can totally be said... But if any of you actually think what happened in that fight was staged, than you are re****ed...
can't disagree with any of that. i hope to never see ortiz again. as soon as he went down, you knew right away he was gonna stay down (quit), when he could have got up :deal
Everything that happened to Ortiz is because of Ortiz's dumb ass! Cortez is not at fault and I wouldn't have had him do anything differently. Victor is just a dummy.
The build up with Ortiz the villain and Floyds throat grab were staged as h*ll. The fight itself was such a sh*tshow (not staged) that it added to the disaster.
"Let's go" is not a official referee command. I watched other short vids of reffs in boxing and they all send the fighters to the corner and then call time in also hand gesture. Cortez did none of those. Floyd would of easily beat Ortiz and Ortiz probably purposely stayed down. But cortez's refing was way off for such a high profile fight. Yea ortiz shouldn't have been making out with floyd but both fighters should of been at their corners prior to calling time in. That's cortez's job.
All things considered, he did okay. Correct penalty for the headbutt and correct knockout ruling. He told them to fight too. He could've screwed up a lot worse.
