Countdown to Andys big day, what do people think of his chances, last time i looked paddy power had it 4-6 and 11-8 with Korobov being slight favourite,Andy seems to have his best chance ever to hold a world title belt, has experience of his loss against Chavez,Korobov has a great record but doesn't seem to have fought anyone of great importance so an intriguing fight in store, anybody else going to las vegas for fight.

Kovalev over Hopkins. It shows how "talented" fighters are today when a near 50 year old man can still make them look bad.

Andy can win this if his stamina holds out and he hasnt taken too much early on,korbov has been rocked a few times by lesser punchers than Andy but technically is good,i feel that if Andy can stay competitive in the first six,win a couple of the earlier rounds his experience of texas and some of those reported kronk gym wars can stand to him,
This is his best chance to win a title and Andy is such a nice down to earth guy it would be great to see,

It's very simple. How good is Korobov?
If he is any good at all then he beats Andy. But from what I've seen he looked awful. In any case it's irrelevant. The winner here is only keeping the title warm for Billy Joe in the new year.

Do you think Billy Joe will win the title in the new year. His fight with Eubank Jnr could of went either way for me looked wrecked going into the final rounds. I just think if Lee wins a defence against Billy Joe be a good fight but who wins I think it will be a tight fight with both having question marks over there stamina so its always going to be tight going into championship rounds. Andys power is good and it showed in his last fight Andys KO power got him out of troble has heart too be a cracking fight. Billy Joe doesnt seem to have any major KO power great boxer so it could go either way for me.

Always the optimist ha ha,but i dont believe billy will take the title fight as his next one,He hinted such the other evening,
What that leaves is the possibility of a voluntary defence for the winner before facing Saunders at the end of the summer,
Even then it wont be a foregone conclusion there were more questions than answers after last saturdays performance IMO
Still one step at a time and how i would love to see an irish lad crown middleweight champion,

Well Leighton, the bookies can't seem to split Andy and Korobov, and you rarely see a poor bookie, which tells me that Korobov is poor enough. Plus I did watch him myself one time and he looked poor to me too.
So, yes I would confidently pick BJS over andy or korobov.

As regards BJS stamina, I don't think people are giving CEJ enough credit for the mighty effort he put in. He changed tack after about 5 rounds and started diving in to close the range and get past BJS jab and it worked well for him. He did manage to close BJS down a lot. But remember BJS coped well in the clinches and trenches against a much bigger man, out manhandling CEJ most of the time.
Ok he wasn't using his legs like against Spike but it still took an awful lot of energy and fitness to do that. I don't think BJS stamina is in doubt at all, personally.

I would doubt BJS loses a round to Andy if they end up fighting, mind you I thought he'd pitch a shutout. Against CEJ too! :bbb

Ironically, the very first post in this Irish Boxing thread, by Ardy? (Who ever he is, who started all this thread)..mentioned Andy Lee. We all had high hopes for him back then, who'd a thunk we'd still be talking about Andy all these years later.... sadly it all came to nothing....
Andy should call it a day now, he's well past his sell-by date.

    Nothing??

The guy is fighting for a world title next week.

The second title hes fought for.
How many Irish guys have fought for world titles??

The guys 30 years old, plenty of good fights left in him.

When he starts to get beaten up like Macklin has, then Ill start calling for his retirement.

And for your information, Korobov was a superstar amateur, who won the world championships twice, beating numerous fighters who would go on to be top names.

And is now an undefeated Pro.

Anything else you need to know?
