Would Willard have the skill set to fight under modern rules? As you point out its a different sport.

I think that Willard basicaly had the "big fighter skillset" that a superheavyweight needs to be sucesful against shorter fighters.

He wasn't too polished, but his power and durability wer arguably among the uper echelon of superheavyweights.

These two factors would be all that were necvesary for him to enjoy significant sucess today.

A good few years on now and tyson has improved adapting his game off of Klitschko. He's dangerous now.

I'd go with Fury. Fury is far more fluid, quicker, puts his punches together better and a higher workrate.

In pre-fight interviews Dempsey stated his intention to have an free-for-all brawl with Firpo. Yeah, I doubt he planned on being pushed out of the ring though.

I reckon Firpo was better than abysmal though. I believe he won some fights on merit.

Over 12 rounds, I think Fury could win by being busy and staying at range. BUT Willard was big, strong and probably more powerful than the fighters Fury is accustomed to.

Today that might be very controversial because it looks like Firpo half-pushes and leans on him to force him out of the ring.
A TV replay would show clearly.

Too early to tell in Fury's career, still developing. He is still quite a bit younger than Jess was when Jess started boxing.

We should wait a few years before making any judgements.

hard to say, Fury has some good skills for a big man, not big on power but has the size and Willard had some skills as well. Looks like it could be a distance fight and late stamina may be an issue I called it a draw because its a close call

Bigger, stronger (?) and has the longer reach.

He also can fight southpaw if he needs to.

I have to feel sorry for poor old Glazkov.

Fury and Wilder are getting all this attention, and even getting threads in the classic forum, while he has actually beaten somebody in the top 10!

A little perspective would be in order here!

On the subject of the proposed fight, I have serious doubts at this stage that Fury could take Willard's shots. Whatever his shortcomings, Willard hit like a truck, and we already know that Fury's chin isn't the best.

I thought Cunnigham beat Adamek clear enough, before Glazkov did it.
    Adamek was overrated.
