He ruled his division for 5 years and was one of the most recognizable people in boxing.

He was doing 20 years ago, what Mayweather does now with all the flashy, ****y stuff.

True, but when you watch him during his prime vs the one that fought Barrera you can see the difference.

Its like comparing Tyson of 86 vs the one that fought Holyfield.

Hamed was very good, Barrerra called him great.

On his best day Hamed is still one of the best featherweights ever.

Wasn't Bowe really first eligible in 2001?

How do they determine "retirements" in boxing exactly? Bowe was inactive for what? 12 years or so before that sad effort of a comeback?

Nah, no way was Bowe eligble in '01. I think its 6 years retired before you can become eligible, and Bowe last fought in 97-98

that can be said about almost any fighter. compare pacquiao of 2009 to the one today, yet pac continues to add to his legacy. why? because pac is made of sterner stuff.
yes, hamed looked very good. if he had been a bit more durable and a bit more driven, he might have been an atg... but then that would have been a completely different fighter than the one who actually existed.

    True,

i think he retired at the right time. Brittle hands, reflexes gone, MAB provided the blueprint, it was just going to be Roy Jones Junior all over again with more losses to follow

Not that it matters. Hes been retired for 6 now and was off for another 6 or 8 while he was locked up and than retired before that. You would probably have to get a committee member like hhascup to tell us when exactly he was first eligable and how coming back may have effected that.

In my humble opinion, he doesnt deserve to be in there.
If i could have a IBHOF clean up, id throw him out ass first, and Mcguigan too!

Yes, it is Hamed for sure. But Kevin Kelley, Johnny Tapia, Ayala, Salud, Morales, kennedy McKinney, the close fight with Marquez that really could have gone either way regardless of the scores all add up to a HOF fame career for Barrera without question.

I never questioned MABS greatness anywhere.

The point im making is MAB is a great, Hamed is one of MABS top wins.

So how does that make Hamed a bum?

You cant be an ATG and have a bum as one of your top wins

    I don't think so.

I can't be ****d to look, but Bowe had no fights after December 1996 Golota II until like 2008 or something like that.
