he was in my gym last sun and mon sparring and he's not shot, his style has changed since he left me but he ain't shot
Good to hear Billy. Think the style change will help him? Also, any idea who the Haymon fighter is he's being lined up against?
i obviously liked the style I helped him develop, time will tell if the new style helps. Yes I know who it is but it's hush hush lol:good
2 years on and Billy is still biting to Solaris!! **** sake Billy your a bloody grown man!! Bottom line is Ricky Burns is a former 2 weight world champion wether folk like it or not. I as many did thought he would get his **** royally handed to him by Roman. The Mitchell fight was seen as a 50/50 by most yet Ricky (feather fisted apparently) sparked him out. Moses is also a solid fighter surely nobody can doubt that one. Crawford will probably be fighter of the year 2014 and will go on to fight Pacquiao at 140 by the looks of it. You cant use the excuse Beltran would have lost had Ricky not sustained a broken jaw, Beltran was the one who broke his jaw!! I like Ricky seems a nice lad, i met him and he was really sound. I do think his best days are behind him, his last fight was dog****. He looked very shakey in there, scared to be hit. I do wish him all the best and would love him to prove me wrong.
He might not be completely shot but mentally he could have lost that spark that he had for three of four years. So he can technically look good in the gym but when fight time comes something is missing.
I think you've hit the nail on the head with that. We've heard over the last 12-18 months, from numerous people not just Billy, that Ricky has been looking superb in the gym, sharp in sparring etc. But on fight night, the performances haven't been up to scratch. For whatever reason it is, he doesn't seem to be replicating his form in the gym into fights. One thing I've noticed with him, which has been seen ever since the Gonzalez fight (who I rate as a good fighter by the way, look forward to seeing more of him) is that his control of distance isn't what it was previously. He seem's to be over reaching with his shots or falling short, especially with the jab.
that's because he started loading up with his right hand after stopping Mitchell never ever done it beforehand
Yeah you're definitely right there, the over reaching/falling short started happening after the Mitchell stoppage... and has happened in each of his fights since. Strange though, considering it was the left hook (the 1st knockdown) that spelt the beginning of the end for Mitchell.
kevins weakness has always been the left hook and I purposely overworked Ricky on that punch on the lead up to the fight. Just coz you win by stoppage don't mean you've become a puncher for sure
