I don't have a dog in this fight im not a fan of either man, but if these 2 had met say in around 97-98- Tua would have kicked his ass, he was bigger, physically and mentally stronger, better Stamina, endurance, 5 years younger, and most importantly had a better chin, and he wouldn't have been afriad at all of . the older, smaller, weaker man..

The longer this fight goes the better it gets for Tua, Mike wouldnt have been able to get him out of there in 2 or 3 rounds, Tua is a real fighter, not Bruce Seldon, Tyson would probably get discouraged and start fighting dirty and would get DQd or run out of gas and get KTFO, Mike's never had good stamina...

HOWEVER if you put the prime 88 Tyson, in with the prime 97 Tua, 88 Tyson wins a decision, that Tyson actually liked to train and fight, and wasn't a circus act...

So true, that Lottery punch that Rahman landed will probably haunt Lewis to the grave:lol:, and lets face it No way in hell was Tyson gonna beat Lewis, he was just too small.and washed up, i can't believe a lot of folks actually bet on Tyson to win that....:huh

People bet on Tyson because of emotional sentiments and his out of control antics to sell the fights, but anyone who watched their last 2 fights prior to that match knew Tyson was finished.

The Lewis who turned up for rahman 1 compared to the Lewis who turned up for Tyson were completely different fighters. Lewis on record said that he trained his hardest ever in his career for the Tyson fight.

Tua struggled against rahman 1. There is no way he would have lasted against Tyson from 85-91. He was far too one dimensional.

I do remember Bert Cooper finding Mercer relatively easy to hit... tyson would do the same and more often and would tko Mercer around 7 or 8 rounds..

It would be like a Hummer (Tyson) going against a Tank (Tua)

how the hell was Tyson the smaller weaker man?

i listed their measurements earlier, Tyson has longer reach and was simply the superior boxer

not only that he knocked out much more solid opposition than Tua did.

Tua fought around 230-240 lbs, Tyson around 220, hell ya thats how he's bigger, Tua was a lot physically stronger than Mike just look at his legs, hell even Holyfield was pushing Tyson all around the ring when they fought:deal, if it came down to a physical mano a mano give and take brawl Tua slams him..

Prime Tyson would win on points, but late 90"s Tyson gets DQD, or ends up on the canvas...

  13. I remember everybody wanted to see this fight in the 90s. Lou Duva used to call out Mike Tyson all the time when he was David's trainer. Someone here mentioned that David would have had more success if he'd been a Don King fighter. I agree. He got ripped off by Kevin Barry anyway, so he might as well have signed up with King. Oliver McCall, Hasim Rahman, John Ruiz, and Michael Moorer got thousands of title opportunities, and David knocked out all of them!!! (except Oliver McCall, whom he never faced).

Tyson should win on paper. The more I think about it, the more the fight should favor Tyson. Two huge punchers with great chins going at it? Tua was often lackadaisical with his offense, vouching to go through periods of 30-40 seconds doing absolutely nothing but posing. This won't work for him very well here, and in Tyson you have a fighter who threw in combination, body and head, and actually utilized head movement to avoid his opponent's heavily artillery. Tua won't be able to get off first, and his head is quite stationary in comparison.

Having said that tho, has Tyson fought anyone with the power of a Tua? It's more likely Tyson knocks Tua's head off first but how does Tyson react when Tua lands that left hook? Tyson had a good chin but it's his heart I'm concerned about in a fight like this.

Tyson's chin wasn't anywhere near as good as Tua's, he was knocked out by feather fisted Douglas in his prime for crying out loud, even old fat Grandad Telletubbie Tua would live to see the final bell against the myth that was Tokyo Douglas!

I assume the OP meant prime versions of both fighters.

I think Tyson would win on points in a surprisingly boring fight, where the rounds tend to be repetitive in their content. I think Tua will taste what Tyson has to offer and will shut up shop quite early, similarly to the way he did against Lewis, Tyson will realise this and steadily build up points along the way.
