If Lewis took it easy on Tua, then Bonecrusher took it REALLY EASY on Tyson ... he fought a completely defensive fight, he admits he was intimidated by the hype.
Yeah and as soon as he grew the ***** to fire back he had Tyson hurt, he even said if he'd had gone ***** out he would have knocked him out.
Thing, is if he'd gone ***** out against a quicker, harder hitting and more skilful opponent, he was more likely to get KO'd himself. Much easier to survive, barely throwing a punch all night and losing every round, and then boast afterwards that you could have won by KO.
Well that just shows the mans character, be better to go out on your shield and possibly get a knock out then to fight to last the distance. Smith had the power to win but didn't dare risk it, Tua wouldn't be so timid.
The Bonecrusher clammed up for his own safety. He knew he'd be bombed out if he traded. Had he not had an iron chin , he would have been KO'd , holding or no holding. Fight proved Mike could go 12 and was good on the inside contrary to popular belief.
It's possible, but that's a big "if". Smith's whole career was a little bit blighted by sometimes being a bit unsure of himself and letting fights get away from him, for one reason or another. Yes, he had the firepower and the size to get the job done. He didn't have the skill, but that might be overcome. Sadly, he lacked the 'fire', the 'heart' to make a real effort. That's very possible too. Of course that was Tyson's excuse for NOT be able to knock him. Yes. But to be fair to Smith, he's never said this stuff in a boastful manner, more in a regretful way. I remember the media really gave him a hard time for the way he fought Tyson (encouraged by the Jacobs/Cayton regime!) - and he deserved it to a large extent, he was way too defensive, but really the criticism was so severe because Smith had ruined the Tyson-loving hype that the media had indulged in. He made Tyson look bad, and deep down everyone knew it. That's what upset them. Jacobs actually had Don King cancel Smith from the Tyson-Tucker undercard which was bit over-the-top, a b!tch move. But that's the kind of machine Tyson had behind him.
what are you talking about? They are two completely different fights with totally different result. Lewis outboxed Tua without breaking a sweat, Smith hardly opened and hugged all night because he didn't want to end up like Tyaons last opponent
Smith made Tyson look bad, but it didn't matter, Tyson got the job done. And back to the thread, Tua ain't Smith, hes David Plod Plod Tua.
Tua did the same against Lewis. A few early right hands from Lewis made him gunshy and he'd pretty much given up trying to win long before the end.
Well, he opened up in the last 10 seconds of the fight and had Tyson stunned a bit. For Smith against Tyson, hypothetically, there's probably a suitable strategy somewhere in between "reckless trading" and "too defensive/negative" where his chances are pretty decent. We don't have to consider only the extremes. He could have taken a few more chances to hurt Tyson, that doesn't mean throwing all caution to the wind.
That's a myth, please show me where Tua ever backed away from Lewis?? At least he had the chin to survive to the final bell, the same cannot be said for Tyson.
You brought up the fact that big-punching Lewis "took it easy" on Tua to make a point about Tua's chin. You also mentioned Bonecrusher as proof of Tyson's chin. Well, Lewis landed more on Tua, and opened up more on Tua, and landed punches in sequence against Tua. Whereas Bonecrusher hardly landed much on Tyson. So, what was YOUR point again ?
A few years ago, i visited Smiths website, he had pictures of his "knockdown" of Tyson, bragging how hed dropped him. For those that have actually watched the fight, know that Tyson actually slipped and there was never a punch. and were supposed to take this guy seriously
the only reason smith opened up, or dared to, is because he knew there was about 10 seconds left of the fight and secondly the reason it stunned Tyson was because Tyson had spent the last 36 minutes chasing Smith around and probably fell asleep like most of the audience. Still one punch does not change the outcome of that fight
