Cotto-Alvarez almost a done deal?, Alexander defeats Khan. Who will be Mayweather's opponent? The way it's looking, forget the Pacquiao fight as it will never happen.

Losing that date will be a big blow to his ego. I think Floyd is a smart businessman so I doubt he would want to fight on the same date unless he was fighting Pacquiao. If he doesn't fight on May 2 I wonder what his excuse will be because I highly doubt he will admit that the Canelo-Cotto fight is a bigger draw than him vs Amir Khan(?) or anyone else not named Pacquiao.

If Mayweather finishes his career with a perfect record, as seems likely, but doesn't fight Pacquiao, which also seems likely, he'll never get fully away from it. There will be a significant number of voters who will withhold support from him for the International Boxing Hall of Fame for not facing the best opponent of his era.
Mayweather will, as he should, be elected on the first ballot, but he won't be unanimous by any stretch if he doesn't face Pacquiao.

    Arum has to step aside.
    That is the snag.

Was publicly announcing the need to build a stadium in a hotel parking lot, needing six months for a cut to heal, giving deadlines to make the fight when another fight was already signed or not making any counteroffers "trying" in your eyes? At this point, I blame both sides but let's not pretend that Arum has suddenly become sincere.
