The myth that Foreman avoided punchers in his 2nd career

    I often hear that Foreman avoided hard hitting guys during his 2nd career. That's simply not true.
    Here's the list of punchers he faced through his 40's:

    - Jerry ****ey
    - Bert Cooper (ask Holyfield or McCall who named Cooper the hardest hitter he shared ring with - and that was sparring)
    - Alex Stewart
    - Shannon Briggs (most 1st rd KO's at HW, had Lennox badly hurt)
    - Tommy Morrison (deadly left hook)
    - Lou Savarese

    Holyfield and Moorer hit pretty hard, too.

    He didn't avoid punchers. He avoided good fighters unless it was against the heavyweight champion and for a lot of money.

    Tommy Morrison was the greatest puncher of the 90s.

    Razor Rudduck hit harder and so did Tyson. Lennox Lewis too.

    I think he simply made the calculation that there were three or four guys that he really needed to steer clear of.

    Unless they held the title of course.

    Tyson didn't hit as hard as Morrison IMO.

    This may be true but when he did face good even great fighters he always held his own or won (Holyfield, Moorer) you gotta give that to him.I actually applaud Foreman for the opposition he took on at his age. I'm not knocking Wlad at all but if you look at George Foreman's second career opponents and you look at W Klitschko's opponents- Foreman faced overall the better fighters, Klitschko faced more solid opposition consistently but overall the three best Old Foreman faced Holyfield, Moorer, Morrison are better IMO then the three best who Wlad Klitschko has ever faced....

    and then look at who knocked out who.. Tyson knocked out the better, more durable fighters.

    Morrison's power was never that impressive at the very top level

    Moorer was in the same tier as Povetkin, Haye, and Ibragimov. He'd definitely be one of Wlad's better opponents, although hopeless if the fight came off. Morrison just isn't. He'd be an average opponent. He has no resume other than the Foreman win which a lot of fighters could pull off. The Ruddock fight took place when Razor wasn't relevant and the stoppage was premature. Holyfield was obviously better than all of Wlad's opponents.

    I agree, and don't forget Foreman wanted no part of Holmes, who in his 40's was anything but a puncher.

    The funny thing is that fight would've been great money for Foreman. The problem is that he would've lost in a landslide.
