Granted his chin is sometimes underrated, but it was not the best.

If Lewis had been born with a chin like Holyfield, how would his career have panned out?

If Lewis had an elite chin he would have passed the McCall and Rahman tests, I think Lewis took a decent punch but once hurt could be taken out because his recovery was not the best. Had Lewis had a elite chin, it would only be his stamina and late power that would be an issue

I appreciate what you are saying.

    No ATG has everything.

It can be useful to explore exactly what they were missing however.

It would just be basically the same except for the McCall and Rahman KO losses first time.

He had other tools to make up for it, good boxing skills, used his height, power, strength. He could protect that chin when focused.

The very best that you could say for it, is that it might have been good.

The bottom line is that he was the only top 10 heavyweight, who ever got taken out like that.

    He didn't

Lewis had an average chin at best. That was always his achilles heel. He was a proven 1 hitter quitter against McCall and Rahman. Shannon Briggs hit him with a 2 inch nothing left hook that made his legs give out and he had to hold on for dear life to avoid getting starched.

He was also known as a guy who was easy to clip in sparring. He got knocked down twice in a single round by Ross Purrity in headgear and both wearing 16 ounce gloves. Jeremy Williams allegedly knocked him out cold in prep for his fight with Holyfield and he was allegedly flattened by Brewster.

Steward did a great job of teaching Lennox how to cover up and hold on when he was hurt. If Steward didn't take him on as a reclamation project after McCall, he probably would have been KO'd a few more times.

BS sparring stories  Jeremy Williams didn't KO him neither did Purrity, Williams was getting beaten up so resorted to Judo throws. McCall didn't KO him either, he was up at 9.

And Lewis fell into the ref's chest. In fact this stoppage was a good thing for Lewis. He was done for and saved from a bad KO which would have been harder to come back from.

I'm a huge Lewis fan and I don't have a particular problem with the stoppage. It was a close call either way.
