I counted 4 big robberies last weekend. We can ad it up to all the December holidays. December 12 and 13 are now 1st and 2nd Robbery Day :good
Yes he was. Of his 20 career losses and two draws, I think Johnson maintains that over half were robberies, at least a dozen or so. That has IMO always been a reach (some of the ones he whined over were definitely not robberies) and just Glen throwing himself a pity-party, but the number in truth may well be up around the double-digit mark. :think Let's delve... TKO11 by Hopkins - obviously not a robbery :yep N/A UD10 to Merqui Sosa - generally accepted as close-but-clear for Sosa, though Johnson diehards claim robbery. (available on Youtube) SD10 to Joseph Kiwanuka - again, consensus is that Kiwanuka edging it was reasonable, but the 7-3 card wasn't (available on YouTube) UD12 to Sven Ottke - close but wrong decision. UD10 to Syd Vanderpool - clear loss, no controversy UD12 to Silvio Branco - robbery MD10 to Omar Sheika - robbery UD10 to Derrick Harmon - clear loss, no controversy MD10 to Julio Cesar Gonzalez - robbery D10 with Daniel Judah (first meeting) - robbery D12 with Clinton Woods (first meeting) - robbery UD12 to Antonio Tarver in rematch - clear loss, no controversy SD12 to Clinton Woods in rubber match - close but wrong decision. UD12 to Chad Dawson (first meeting) - close but wrong decision IMO. Could go either way really. UD12 to Chad Dawson in rematch - clear loss, no controversy UD12 to Tavoris Cloud - close but wrong decision MD12 to Carl Froch - close-but-clear for Froch. UD12 to Lucian Bute - clear loss, no controversy UD10 to Andrzej Fonfara - robbery UD12 to George Groves - clear loss, no controversy TKO9 to Ilunga Makabu - N/A UD10 to Erik Skoglund - robbery So, eleven. Exactly half of his 22 non-wins.
I actually had it a draw on the night but couldn't see Fonfara getting any more rounds than I gave him, while a few close ones that I did give him could've gone Johnson's way. On the night, in the RBR thread, everybody had it either scored for Johnson or a draw (seen as the worst case scenario for him) - but of course none of us were shocked when the 9-1 and 7-3 cards poured in for the house guy in Chicago. :-(
Ottke is just unbeatable, that's how it works. If I'm correct, according to Johnson, he believed he was robbed against Bute.
And yet Johnson went on to say that he thought he won somehow. Johnson: I thought that I won the fight, I beat him to the punch. I hit him with a lot more punches that he hit me with. I basically beat him with one hand. :!: Jim Gray: It was not even close.
Yeah, that was always Johnson's deal - he got so used to automatically crying foul whenever he lost a decision that he did so even when there was no call for indignation on his part whatsoever. It made him lose a lot of sympathy over the years from the fans (at least some of us) who otherwise regarded him as being a legitimate hard-luck case akin to Delvin Rodriguez or to a lesser extent Fres Oquendo and Emanuel Augustus (both guys who did in fact get screwed a few times but who started to believe their own myth of "always" getting a raw deal when really, ofttimes, they didn't and did actually deserve to lose due to coming on short notice, in poor shape, and/or just not working enough between the bells...) He became the boy (or rather, old man) that cried wolf.
Nothing is being done about it so they'll keep robbing according to their own desires. Just take a look at the shameless robberies in England for pure comedy.
