I don't think in the heat of the moment after winning a tough fight and being put on the spot about a rematch means all that much.

Case in point what if (I'm not saying it's true, just trying to make a point) Vitali wanted the same amount of money as Lewis for the rematch, Should Lewis simply agree because of what was said in front of a microphone?

What if Vitali insisted the rematch be held in Germany? Same question.

What if Vitali blamed the cuts on the gloves and wanted different gloves for the rematch?

I could spend hours coming up with scenarios that could potentially torpedo this rematch.

This is why what boxers say in front of the mic after a fight virtually means nothing. Hell Tyson was practically begging Lewis for a rematch after he got his ass kicked and when a rematch was presented to him, he reneged on it. (I believe it was even a legal contract, but I'm not 100% sure)

This is why contracts exist and must be signed prior to a fight, so that all the details can be worked out and agreed upon, only then does it really mean anything.

Very fair point :good I hadnt really thought of it that way, as far as him saying it in the heat of the moment. The way all thefans were cheering for Vitali after the fight and booing Lennox seemed to make him more defensive/defiant as well. The thing is, that as a lifelong boxing fan, I just really wanted to see that dam fight!!!

An even better example is how often have either Mayweather or Pacman said straight after a fight that they want to fight each other next, only for it to go down the toilet when negotiations start?

Wladimir Klitschko could be knocked out by any previous champ. He would base his strategy on not getting knocked out by any previous champ he fought. He is very good at doing that. People talked about how Ali would beat previous champs too. It seems kind of disrespectful of the previous champs to say they could get beat by someone. We should celebrate how great they all were. A lot of the previous champs weren't respected during their reign, always by stupid people, and it is still going on today.

You're that ugly your momma had to tie a pork chop around your neck so the rats would play with you, inbreeding only hurts your children's children's children. Now if I want your opinion I'll throw you a nut!

Yeah I'm harping on about a decision that the crowd boo'd against and one that fight fans insisted on a rematch, that same rematch that bull****ter Lewis said he would take. Funny how he was arranging other fights with other people but when told he had to fight Vitali again he ran to the hills like a yellow belly cur just like yourself Poxy!!

Its fine and valid to point out that Lewis's win over Vitali left some questions and that he should have given him a rematch.. But using these things to erase the fact that he won isn't. It was still a huge victory and one that he achieved while being in the twilight of his career.

He was washed up and at the end of his rope. It shouldn't even be debatable. A near 38 year old man at a career high weight, coming in after a 12 month layoff and a long tough run as champion should not be viewed as being anywhere near prime.. Could he still fight? sure. Was he still the best heavyweight in the world? Possibly. But claiming that the 2003 Lewis was anywhere near comparable to the Lennox of 1995-2000 is ludicrous.

Lewis had a full camp and no injuries. He was without a doubt one of the best older heavyweights of all time, and didn't look rusty at all disposing Mike Tyson a year ago.

It is obvious that Vitali made Lewis look bad. Lewis had some trouble with good jabbers, and fighters with mobility and defense.

Perhaps this is the reason why he avoided Ruiz and Byrd?. I think we all know why he avoided the re-match and it has nothing to do with his wife :)

On the other hand, a year of inactivity is unlikely to leave a fighter of that age unaffected; as you've discovered, he weighed in in boxer shorts making your persistent claims that he wasn't overweight because he weighed in in his clothes look rather foolish; in fact, given your insistence that he was in better shape because he weighed in clothed is basically an admittance that you see Lewis as being out of shape. Otherwise, why this repeated insistence.

I don't really think so - I just think that Vitali looked pretty good.

On the other hand he was in with an inactive and, by your reckoning, overweight Lewis :)

Lewis was 250 for Botha, 253.5 for Rhaman, and 256.5 for Vitali. Hardly over weight. Just a few extra pounds. Do you see belly fat on him? He looks in shape.

Vitlai got better as his career rolled on. I agree Vitali looked pretty good. I also think he made Lewis miss, and look bad.

Well then why did you pretend for several years (or actually believe and consider it to be very significant) that he weighed in in his clothes? You mentioned this many many times. If you feel Lewis was in shape for the fight, why have you been perpetuating this myth like it has such importance for so long?

You posted the wife information, not I. If his wife wanted him to retire, why did it take a year? Why did he try to make a match with Kirk Johnson and Roy Jones post Klitschko? Why post retirement did he would come back for 50 million? Its all BS. Lewis retired because he only had one belt ( Avoided Byrd and Ruiz ) and the WBC ordered the re-match. Lenny balked.

You felt compelled to respond to my posts, so you care about my opinion.

Not everyone has trouble with good jabbers. The Klitschko's meet their share and never had a problem out jabbing or winning 70% of the rounds vs anyone.
