In a fortnight's time he will be 46 years old, and 22 years (and 532 rounds/76 matches) removed from his professional debut.

Hopefully the Road Warrior is done with the road, and wars.

On twenty occasions he went the distance without a triumphant hand raise - eighteen losses, two draws. Let's once and for all look back and decide collectively which of those were indeed screw jobs, as Johnson developed a reputation over the years as ranking among the most frequently robbed boxers of his generation. Actually, spanning a couple of generations, with his longevity.

You can only fit ten options in a single poll, so this will be two linked threads each with a multiple choice poll containing ten of his decision non-wins. Vote on any that you've seen that you think absolutely were robberies (or even just bad decisions that should've gone his way, even if they were close - so yes, we're using the very loose definition of the word robbery, which I understand is unpalatable to some...)

Here was my stab at making sense of it all:

I am not able to express my feeling on all of the fights but i thought he at least deserved a draw vs Dawson(I), Cloud and Fonfara.

A few days ago i looked at Johnsons record and i was somewhat shocked because i actually remembered that he had gotten a draw vs Cloud.

Tbh one if the biggest robberies was his victory against Tarver.

FYI: poll is multiple choice. Please select all that were in your opinion robberies or bad decisions...and not just the first one that jumps out at you. :yep

Once you vote you can't make any changes.

AFAIK, just about every single fight listed is uploaded on YouTube (or DailyMotion, or elsewhere) - piecemeal, if not all-in-one.

Huh. I wonder how many guys that is true of, that you can take any twenty of their fights (in this case, all their non-victories excluding a pair of stoppage losses, although I'm sure both of those are online) and find them uploaded somewhere on the net - in all but one case viewable right in your browser, and eighteen of twenty on YouTube itself, with sixteen of them in completion in a single video? :think

Hell, I don't think someone like Andre Ward for instance has even been televised as many times as that. :yep

 Okay, bad example. (why'd I choose an Olympian?!)

I was thinking from glancing at his record that maybe his fights with guys like 7-10-1 Julio Jean or 9-2-1 Glenn LaPlante wouldn't have been - except, you're right, from his debut on, everything I check for is there on YouTube.

I only became aware of him around when he started popping up annually on ShoBox (against Cantrell in '07, Ravelo in '08, and Buchanan in '09 before his star really began to rise with the big move to Saturday night headlining on Showtime against El Pantera) with random FSN (Rubin Williams) and Versus (Esteban Camou) dates strewn in between.

edit: A-HA! Found one! Ward vs. Dhafir Smith was on a non-televised Goosen Promotions show. Not even any homemade footage anywhere. :deal

There are 222 rounds of Glen Johnson footage between this and the other thread! (116 in this, 106 in the other)

    That's 666 minutes!! :ldevil

Let's see, the fights that I think Glen Johnson should have gotten the decision would be against:

    Joseph Kiwanuka
    Silvio Bronco
    Omar Sheika
    Julio Cesar Gonzalez
    Daniel Judah I

    ....and continuing...

    Clinton Woods III
    Chad Dawson I
    Erik Skoglund

Not as many as I thought, and the Dawson fight is borderline. I didn't think it was that much of a shaft, but eh, Johnson probably deserved it by a hair.

No votes yet for Harmon, Vanderpool, or Sosa - mildly surprising, as I've seen all three referred to online as 'controversial'. :think
