Well the whole SPOTY thing is neither one thing nor the other - an exercise in comparing those from unheralded sports who 'deserve' along with people who are well known, some of whom have no personality of note. It's not a talent contest, it's not a popularity contest, it's not a 'who is the most deserving' contest, it's not a 'who has the biggest achievement' contest', it's not a 'who is the nicest' contest, etc....... because in fact it is a complete rubbery-c0ck of a mishmash of all these things. I never watch it.

I thought they nominate sportspeople who have achieved a lot/performed very well in the past year and then the public votes so it's a combination of sporting achievement/performance and popularity.

And I don't watch it either tbh. I don't think it matters much but it's probably nice for the winner to be recognised and voted for.

I have always thought of Froch as a reasonable sort of bloke, you don't often get to the top of any contact sport because of your skills as an international diplomat.F1 drivers and jockeys have always been a bit second tier to me,cos to be honest it's the horse/car that counts.Rory or Carl would have been my choice but hey I'm not a petrol head from down sarf!

Well it's on the BBC and they show zero boxing pro wise.

They show F1 which like tennis another BBC sport I have no interest in which the BBC love.

Oh well Froch was back on Grandstand back in the day about the last time the BBC mentioned him!

i just read that the british public feel that sitting on a horse doing a silly dance with its hair plaited all nice is not only a sport but worthy of 4th place! kinda puts into perspective how pointless the award is.

Surprised he came ninth with only 1% of the vote. I know boxing has become marginalised and Froch ain't the most popular, but still...
