How does this one pan out? I think Kovalev is too big, too strong and would knock him out in the early stages of the fight.
I think Kovalev stops him late. Thought it was ovalev vs pascal poll. anyway Kovalev hits harder than LHW Jones and bhop combined. Kovalev 8round TKO.
kovalev would beat the **** out of Calzaghe. if he could drop iron chinned Hopkins....hell find the not so elusive Calzaghe
Not really though. Calzaghe can be as illusive as he needs to be. Kovalev would scare the **** out of him and, if his dad and frank w.arr.en could talk him round then you'd see poor Kovalev getting his head boxed off by a 100% focused Calzaghe, fearing for his life and reputation. It would be a lacy fight style of pace and movement but a dramatically adjusted version with the punch style being more similar to the Kessler fight, wth Joe merely touching loads ending with a power shot to keep Kovalev from setting. A scared Calzaghe, 100% focused does not get beat from any 167-175 lbs fighter, now or then.
Sergey KRUSHER Kovalev just easily beat one of the slickest in the game, Hopkins aint declined that much, still beating top fighters. Sergey Kovalev can box, and joe calzaghe was always open to a right hand, that shoeshining slaps would cause no effect on a 185lb strong as a bull fighter like kovalev, and whilst hes trying to throw his shoe shine slaps he gets hit with right hands, brutal terrible right hands.
He went down twice to Hopkins and Roy Jones Jr. Jeff Lacy was a hypejob. A perfect easy opponent for Calzaghe to beat. Kovalev is much better than Kessler. He hits much harder than Kessler. He has a better range than Kessler. He can box and punch. This would be Joe's first loss. I think Joe was a great fighter but he never faced a proper prime 175 pounder. Calzaghe's resume is rather weak to be honest.
I Hear you mate. However on one level thats quite funny as an X year old Hopkins is often criticised, and used as a stick to beat Calzaghe and his legacy with. Now, here, you state thats a big thing and Hopkins is still dangerous. I agree. But he is getting older and operates at no where near the work rate of Calzaghe. And anyway, a scared Calzaghe does not stop moving, making sure that Kovalev's right foot doesnt get on the outside of his left and so the right hand wont connect. I grant you if it did, its probably good night for poor Calzaghe. Again I see what your saying but those shoe shines work in disorientating and discombobulating an opponent, and dropping in a sollid dig as you move off is perfect if they're setting up a counter. It worked for him always. When he does this Kovalev is'nt throwing so many right hands coz he aint sure whats happening and why, what ever it is thats happening, is happening so fast! I understand totally what your saying, s.hit Kovalev looked like a master boxer against Hopkins but, Joe is a masterboxer. When I say this, I can grant you saying his technique was b.ollocks etc. However, his ring generalship, speed, stamina, experience, ability to adapt and ring savvy, along with his unparalleled determination would, I believe have seen him through a seat of your pants 12 round cat and mouse bout.
Joe would probably be stunned at some point or even dropped, but Joe had a good chin, and could recover well.. I think Joe could steal enough rounds with his quick flurries and outwork Kov down the stretch to a SD victory. Very close fight, with some rounds being hard to score. I think Joe was the more versatile fighter.
