I will gladly watch Canelo vs Cotto on Nigerian independence day, and be forced to buy pre ppv in adanced, if they will set up Mayweather vs Pacquaio in May.

By the way, one of the reason negotiations are still on going for Canelo vs Cotto is because Cotto, who is the A-side fight, is trying to get June date during the weekend of the Puerto Rican day parade.

Since when has it been ok to push a date for the other promoters fighter, when your fighter wants a June date? since when has it been ok to push back the number 1 fight in the world for the number 2 fight in the world?

fight plan 1: Puerto Rican day parade weekend

    and

Rematch: Mexican Revolution day in November

fight plan 2: Mexican independence day in September

    and

Rematch: Puerto rico emancipation day in March

I finally get it, they are Floyd fan boys who are scared to death of their fighter losing as well as Pac fan boys who are scared to death of their fighter losing. Both fan boys don't really want the fight, and will make excuses hoping to never see their fighter compromised

Real boxing fans call out bull**** on both sides.

I hadn't considered the Puerto Rican Day thing. Might make sense...the Mexican audience will tune in for a Mexico vs. Puerto Rico matchup of that magnitude.

On the other hand you're talking about bringing out the Puerto Rican population of...New York as opposed to the Mexican population of Mexico and the U.S. along with all the Americans who find it a good time to get drunk and wear a sombrero.

Cinco de Mayo weekend would probably be bigger. Puerto Rican Day would be bigger for Cotto, but he's basically a diva who hasn't had a legit win since Margarito ate his soul so who cares what he thinks.

I'm approaching it from a 'what makes more money for all involved' standpoint, not a 'what sells less but still gives Cotto a warm fuzzy feeling' standpoint.

Your right, ONLY. Then right back to earth after that Floyd fight. The thrill is gone. Cotto is the A side. ...NYC...MSG....PR DAY. Cotto knows his worth. Only 500k paid to watch Canelo, the other 700k just wanted to see Floyd lose and the other 1mil was Floyd fans. 2.2MPPV:good

.....Money is a big plus, i agree. But Cotto wants the money and a win. He has a better chance at winning in NYC, than at the MGM. You saw the cards with Floyd and Canelo at the MGM, it'll be much worst for Cotto.

Last I heard they were talking the Alamodome and AT&T Stadium (Texas).

Aside from the worst commission in the US, that's probably the place to do it if they do May 2nd.

I still don't think Cotto is the A-side. His PPV with Martinez bombed (in NYC), and Alvarez vs. Floyd far outsold Cotto vs. Floyd. Alvarez simply brings more fans to the table, and on May 2nd in Texas the two of them could do some serious numbers.

Also, Cotto has no legitimacy and is hanging on by his name these days. Look at the record. Has one win over a quality opponent since Margarito beat him and none post-Pacquiao:

    7(6)-4(2) in his last 11.
-1 solid win (2009 Clottey SD)
-1 win over a shot fighter (Mayorga TKO)
-2 wins over nobodies (Jennings and Rodriguez TKO)
-3 stoppage wins over shot fighters via old injuries (Foreman knee, Margarito eye, Martinez knee)
-2 severe beatings (Margarito 11 rounds, Pac 12 rounds)
-2 clear losses (Mayweather, Trout UD)

Alvarez on the other hand not only outsells him and has a much larger national following, he also only has a loss to Floyd (and while he was dominated he was never close to being stopped).

In terms of form over the past 7 years, PPV sales, and total $$ brought to the table, Alvarez is the clear A-side. In terms of overall resume, it's Cotto. But for all intents and purposes Cotto's career has been over for nearly 5 years.
