Kov is big, powerful and skillful. One thing Kov is relentless. He has excellent combinatons, with power at a good speed. Calz is a good boxer but was very hittable. He also had a good chin and would fight back but I really don't see him doing this against Kov. Once he feels Kov's power he will go into bike mode. I think Kov could go up to Cruiser and still bang people out, that's how powerful he is. This fight has three outcomes and two are Kov's. Only way I see Calz winning is by a quick in and out strategy, throw a quick flurry and just run around the ring. He will get caught but his chin is good enough to last the full 12 on his bike. If he choses to stand and trade, he will get blown away in the first half of the fight. If he boxes the way he usually does, then it will be a UD to Kov once he tastes his power. The big problem is Calz doesn't have the power to trouble Kov without taking punishment himself. Again, unless Calz goes on his bike, this fight will be a TKO for Kov.
50/50 fight I think. I could see Kovalev catching Calzaghe and finishing him off but I could also see Calzaghe getting caught, surviving a KD and outboxing Kovalev like he did against Kessler.
Im just curious where you think he ranks on an all time p4p list or at light heavyweight, where this fight would occur?
I'll tell you one thing, Sir Joe Calzaghe would never go life and death with Darnell Boone and require a gift decision for the W!
Andre Ward also got a gift against Darnell Boone. Darnell Boone also knocked out Adonis Stevenson. Kovalev battered him in the rematch. Calzaghe would be on the canvas against Boone. He always goes down in fights. Calzaghe struggled with Hopkins who Kovalev shut out 12 - 0. Calzaghe was no force at 175.
you always answer 'would could should' when talking of JC the person you are answering answers "did" this is why calzaghe is not rated high amongst top world SMWs, because he DIDNT, whereas they did.
because he only ever stepped up from national level 4 or 5 times - 1. unified champ Kessler -in truth a great home defence 2. good tv show boxer bika - his other non-weakling defence. 3. NABF loser Mitchell (cheat stoppage for joe, Byron stopped by ref when slipping straight after dropping joe cleanly) 4. 40something Hopkins 5. reid (when he arguably got beat) somewhat short of the 21 "world" defences he claims, but heyho that's joe.
Fact. This much is clear. Well done Jim. The thing is im a bit of a stickler for facts Jim, and what youve just said here is b.ollocks. He is revered around the world. If you do actually watch boxing and keep up with its happenings then you may be aware he is a FIRST BALLOT Hall of Famer. Revered and held on to as the Legend he is, all across the globe. For a few such examples of this appreciation click on the links below and educate yourself. http://www.ibhof.com/pages/inductionweekend/2014/14_announce.html http://philboxing.com/news/story-100406.html Again Jim, your pretty s.hit at working with facts aren't you. He did beat everybody, remember the 46-0 bit? If anything Jim, considering your naivety and that of a few others around here, Calzaghe is UNDERRATED.
