In the HBO broadcast of the fight I think Oscar is cited as coming in around 147 lbs in the ring - i e about the same weight he weighed in at. That is very strange since he could have come in at 160 without having to drain dramatically much. Or at least 155 if he was loathe to drain too much at that age. So, does anyone know why he decided to cut real weight (most of it probably muscle) rather than just drain water and rehydrate?
He would of been out of practice pretty much and maybe didn't trust his body to just cut the water. It's a risky business expecting to use sauna's, water restriction and it's not very comfortable when you're cutting allot of water weight. Also part of water cutting is cutting carbohydrates, so it goes hand in hand. He probably figured aswell as water weight he needed to sharpen up. Let's not forget that importantly his training was sloppy by this stage.
How many times is this going to be asked? The best answer we've got is from Oscar himself who said he wanted to be as fast as possible.
