Why was Khan's win over Alexander shown on National News

He isn't a world champion and hasn't been for years, it wasn't a world title fight. Feather fisted average Devon Alexander isn't a top 10 welterweight.

It Doesn't make sense when the UK has 6 Current World champions and they hardly ever get shown on the news.

Andy Lee won a world title on the same night against a top fighter.. yet he gets nothing...

I find it baffling the level of fame Khan gets on national media, when Ricky Burns has more world title wins than him.

 

its because people know who he is, and love him or hate him his fights are normally good to watch, he's also possibly 2nd favourite for a fight against the current p4p king Floyd mayweather

several million tuned in to watch him in the Olympics many years ago. boxing's a relatively minor sport, so any boxer getting national news attention is a good thing.

DA is a top 10 WW, who shut out maidana not too long ago, and was a WW title holder around 12 months ago.

Alexander's loss to Porter means he defo was not a top 10 welterweight, he was about 13th/14th.

Khan has always had media profile he does not deserve. Based on abilty/achievements/ current form and the amount of other current world champions the UK has theres no way a non title fight like that should be shown.

 

It's probably just because theres millions of asians in the UK and British asians are very, very poor at all sports.... so they chuck the publicity onto this average boxer who isn't even a world champion, and isn't even the best in the UK in his own division

Didn't you just get exposed on the other thread on Amir Khan. You used the rankings of Khans opponents after they were defeated instead of what they were when they fought Khan. Idiot.

The reason Khans on national news is because he's a household name/celebrity in UK, he won the olympic silver at 17 and thats what made him insanely popular, a kid beating up grown men.

 

Lee is a great guy but did not even come close to an Olympic medal. Opinions are subjective. Facts are facts.

I don't resent Khan getting the coverage but will admit I find it very annoying when he starts claiming he doesn't get any support. It's simply not true.

I can't believe I am saying this because Kell Brook is very annoying but I am actually starting to want to see him KO Khan, which is what I genuinely believe he would do if they fought anyway.

 

Because like it or lump it, to any Tom, **** or Harry on the street, Khan is one of the most if not thee most well known boxers from the UK currently. He received an awful lot of media recognition after his success in the Olympics, in the same way that Joshua, Campbell, Adams etc have all had after London 2012. He's managed to sustain that through high profile fights in the US as well as being seen as a villain to many who are eager to tune in and watch him get KO'd as people seem to have got a bit of a taste for that after his loss to Prescott. As long as he can keep name dropping Mayweather at any opportunity he'll manage to keep himself semi relevant despite his inactivity in the ring.

 

Silver medalist at a Europeans, not an Olympics.

If his name was Alan Smith nobody would give a toss about him. He'd be on the same media attention/casual interest level as the likes of Jamie McDonnell, a guy who has good fights and is obviously world level but is barely known outside of boxing fans.
