agree with most of that, though think GGG is a lot better than bute etc. GGG's fighting murray the same night as paul smith's fighting AA I think, would of preferred to see GGG vs AA at 168 to see how good his power / chin do at 168

speaking of AA, his ko rate dropped significantly after he moved from 160-168

for froch to be a ATG, he needs to rematch and beat andre ward.

 

Yea GGG vs AA COULD be an interesting fight. Only thing with AA is that he just tortoise shells too much and I think he'd invite GGG on to him too much and might end up being too much of an easy nights work. If he decides to throw a bit then it will be interesting to see how a sturdy 168 chin stands up to GGG and if GGG can handle a decent shot from a strong (or at least used to be) SMW.

 

168 is not a great division though. Froch has ruled himself out of a fight with Golovkin because the cash isn't there. Ward isn't interested either. Who does that leave? Dirrell?

At least at 160 there is potentially a huge fight with the winner of Cotto/Canelo, and the likes of Lee, Taylor, Andrade, Quillin make for lucrative, if not competetive fights.

He paints himself into a corner at 168, because he validates all the guys at 160 avoiding him, and he won't get four fights a year there against anyone decent.

 

I dont think golovkin is looking to move away from MW yet and think he was reffering to a few years down the line, which time I expect Froch would be retired.
Im surprised if Froch is only looking for one more fight, that it wouldnt be against Ward

If I was Froch I'd want the easiest fight, for the biggest purse. Every fight has to be treated as the retirement fund. If he wins and wins well... roll on. If not, stop.

I think it's really only fans of the sport, not active participants, who would look at a rematch, for example, against Ward... and consider that a good idea.

I expect Froch is very comfortable with his 'legacy' and all that ****e, and would gladly avoid a 'meaningful' fight for a couple of extra million in the bank.

The problem is that Lacy hasn't done anything after the loss to Calzaghe, so proven to be all hype. So in this case if Froch wins, would depend on what Golovkin would do afterwards.

 

Completely agree that he is no hype job but if Froch gave him a hiding then that's what non Froch fans would be saying to undermine his achievements. Look at Broner, achieved more than GGG as he is 2 weight world champ at a seriously young age and clearly a very talented fighter but he takes a beating off Maidana and now everyone considers him a hypejob, not Maidana put in a great performance to beat a very good opponent.

 

Your point about Bute would hold more water if Golovkin hadn't sparked him with one punch as an amateur. Do i think Froch could get rid of Geale in 3 rounds? No.

Nobody as crude and open as Carl Froch will ever beat Gennady Golovkin, no matter how much bigger you think they are.

 

It depends how his career pans out. If Broner goes on to have a stellar career and becomes a P4P king, then Maidana's victory will be rightly considered a fantastic achievement. However if Broner's star fades and he does not live up to expectations, then that will be a measure of how good Maidana's victory was.

You can only determine whether someone is a hype job with hindsight. And one loss does not mean someone is a hype job.

 

Froch is already an ATG. Beating GGG will only enhance his resume but wouldn't make him a better fighter for it. Beating Ward would elivate his status, not GGG. GGG has still got more to do before getting to Froch's or Wards level.

Was dominated by Taylor before a last ditch KO, Dirrell got robbed, Ward schooled him, Bute was a complete hype job, and Paul Smith showed just how poor Abraham is. Groves give him the run around before a premature stoppage. His best win was in the Groves rematch where Fitzgerard completely ruined Groves.
