I guess folks can debate this topic until the cows come home, i would have rather had Calzaghe's career than Jones, Joe never took a nap in the ring against ANYONE, and never lost a professional fight:deal.. Also Calzaghe whipped his ass when they met in the ring i don't give a **** if Jones was past his prime so was Calzaghe who was ONLY 3 years younger, and Jones agreed to get into the ring with him and was boasting how he was gonna whip him Personally i thought Calzaghe was a better all around fighter, and he certainly had a better chin:deal
SILVER SKULL 66, Wow! Joe never lost a fight? I guess that he and Rocky Marciano must be sure fire candidates to be named the GOAT. You would rather have had Joe's career than Roy's? Ha! Roy started out at 160 and fought at 154, and ended up winning a version of the HW title at 34. He won belts in four divisions, including unifying 175, before going to HW, and then coming back to reclaim them. He was considered the best fighter in the world for almost ten years. He barely lost rounds in his prime, and beat good fighters like they were amateurs. What a joke! Joe was a great fighter in his own right. But he defended the WBO belt that was a laughing stock in the 90's, against mainly substandard opposition. It took him ten years to unify, when he could have moved to LHW much sooner than he did. The biggest wins of his career were a past his best Eubank, Jeff Lacy, Mikkel Kessler, and he sc*aped by Hopkins. At 35 years of age, he was made to fight Peter Manfredo, who was the runner up on 'The Contender', to gain more U.S. exposure. Roy's career was on another level to Joe's, and the zero was just due to circumstances. What have you been drinking? He was 9 weeks from being 40 you pudding. He hadn't had a top level win for five years. Glen Johnson had beaten him four years earlier. He was that far gone, Joe on three occasions said he wouldn't want the fight because it was pointless. As if Joe would have gone near him in his prime. What did he say about Roy in 2003? "I think I could give him a good fight. Maybe the best he's had. But I know what my CAPABILITIES ARE, and I'd want 'The Crown Jewels' because of the RISK involved." Funny how he didn't want 'The Crown Jewels' in 2008. Personally, you need to see an optician after the Christmas holidays. Who cares if Joe had the better chin? What about all of the other attributes? Hand speed - Roy Defence - Roy Work rate - Joe Stamina - Joe Chin - Joe Shot variation - Roy Timing - Roy Accuracy - Roy Footwork - Roy Reflexes - Roy Power - Roy Are you going to disagree with any of the above? How on earth was Joe the all around better fighter? The only thing that Joe had over Roy, was longevity. When they were both at their best, it's clear to anyone that Roy was on a different level. There's no way Joe could have beaten a 25 year old version of Roy. The evidence is clear for everyone to see. :good
His fan boys put up stupid names like Griffin, or a weight drained Toney, when did they ever have the work rate of Calzaghe or the punch output? Come to think of it when did Jones ever face an opponent with that kind of work rate? Against Joe Cal he would only be showing one thing, his absolute dread of getting hit on that glass jaw. Calzaghe doesn't need to hit him hard, just keep him honest with fast accurate combinations, much like he did when they actually fought. And Calzaghe was also well past his prime in that fight, but still landed at will. Jones fans are starting to become as pathetic as Tyson freaks. Loudon slags Joe off something rotten for taking the fight after commenting that Jones was past it, but conveniently skirts over the facts that you pointed out. He signed the contract, took the money, ran his semi literate mouth off, about whipping Calzaghe, then got well and truly fvcked.
such as the one above thanks for example though I cannot see wat you wrote, its pretty obvious what you wrote.
Loudon - Well said, sir. There is NO POINT arguing with silver idiot. What he knows about Boxing you could write on the back of a stamp! Completely clueless.
As opposed to you who could write all you know on a pinhead, and still leave room for Tolstoy's War and Peace.
Foxy 01, How is any of the above relevant? What difference does it make if Roy hadn't fought anyone with Joe's work rate? What, and you seriously think that Joe would have signed for the fight and then he'd have thrown fast accurate combinations? 1. I don't believe for a second that he'd have taken the fight, and his comments and his resume reflect that. 2. A lot of Joe's combinations weren't accurate. He concentrated more on volume than he did on accuracy. There's many examples to view. 3. Joe was relatively easy to hit. Fighters who weren't even on Roy's planet managed to tag Joe clean throughout his career. So had they fought, Roy would have found him easy. Joe couldn't have thrown combinations at Roy, because for the first time in his career, he'd have been facing a guy who was faster, more skilled, and with more firepower in either hand. Here we go again. Go and read Joe's, Frank W's, and Joe's father, Enzo's comments. Joe was not well past his best. If you're saying he was, then you are arguing against what they all said. Who cares if he landed at will? Did Glen Johnson not land at will, over four years earlier? Who cares if Roy signed the contract and wanted the fight? It doesn't make the win credible. Do you seriously think that Joe deserves credit for beating a 40 year old fighter, after he'd laughed that Roy was past it and he'd said he'd be disappointed to fight him? Bizarre!
The way I see it .... Roy Jones Jr. would destroy Calzaghe, and it would not be close or competitive. Jones would probably be able to stop Calzaghe whenever he chose but might make this a 12-round schooling.
