All of the future good Irish fighters will be real Irish im glad to say, as in born and raised. Give us 3 or 4 years or so and I wont be surprised if we have 4 or 5 world champions. We have a lot of talent in the amateurs and quite a few really good pro prospects. The irony of it all is if he had let the world known of his Irish roots back in the 60's, he wouldn't have been hated on as much. But I believe it was just recently he had found out about his ancestry. Ward's father was an Irish American, tho Ward considers himself African American.
'Irish' Muhammad Ali doesn't really work though. lol Andre Ward is clearly ashamed of his Irish roots, IMO. First it was Andre ''All Terrain Fighter'' Ward, then he changed it to Andre ''Son of God'' Ward. 'Irish' Andre Ward would've actually worked. Why does he never mention his Irish ancestry? I guess he must secretly enjoy only having a handful of fans or something.
Shouldn't Jerry Quarry, Gerry ****ey, Sean O'Grady and Tommy Morrison be on the list too? I'm not sure about their ethnic origins but their names seem Irish. It just doesn't seem like the USA is producing notable fighters of any sort of particular ethnicity these days except for Hispanic surnames. What's even weirder is Puerto Rico isn't producing high quality professional boxers like it used to.:think I suppose Trey Lippe Morrison and Kenzie Witt Morrison could fall into the current "Irish American" boxer category.
