Well does that mean Canelo is the same guy who gassed out against trout after 7 rounds of trout applying very little pressure and just pawing with his jab and the same Canelo who threw to the body of Lara the whole 12 rounds because he wasn't able to cut off the ring or land anything flush to the head of lara
Floyd realized that he should strike while the iron was hot, Canelo looked average against Trout, and Floyd took the fight seeing the glaring holes in Canelo's game that he could exploit, Canelo is still very young and I think he learned a lot from his loss to Floyd which he implemented against Lara, I think he realized his limitations as a pure boxer and turned into more of a pressure fighter and had far more success at pinning down Lara and trying to make him fight than anybody who's fought him before. Lara beats Cotto as well in my opinion.
Well as the Lara fight proved Canelo's stamina has improved immensely, it had to in order to chase Lara for 12 rounds. Cotto isn't as elusive as Erislandy either.
I agree with Lara beating Cotto too but I'm just not sold on Canelo until I see him outright beat a guy with no debating
Canelo isn't a 154 Hagler if he stands toe to toe with Cotto he's just in as much risk as Cotto. Cotto's notorious lefthook to the body could be a serious game changer if Roach can get him to use it
I'm not that high on Canelo either, but Lara, Floyd and Trout are all really hard to look good against, and the reason why Canelo has these controversies is because he's at least willing to take the fights against guys he knows could make him look bad. Cotto has struggled for years an while I'm a huge fan of Martinez, that match and the victory over Delvin didn't show me anything, Delvin was a bum and Martinez had been on crutches for about last 7 months of 2013, he was far from tip top which should be obvious to anyone who watched the fight.
I don't rate Alvarez as a special talent at the moment but he's young and seems to look good against certain types of fighters. He will always do well against the Angulos of this world. If you put him in with a boxer mover slickster type of fighter like a Lara or Mayweather then he will always have a hard time keeping up the pace and look very sluggish in the process. Canelo has all the time to improve and i think he might be better suited at 160 over 154. If he learns how to cut the ring off better and quicker in fights then he will improve his overall game a lot. I think Cotto is tailor made for Alvarez. I think Alvarez will beat him up and put him down on the canvas. Cotto is a good boxer but he's not as quick or elusive as a Lara who moves around the ring. He remains stationary for periods where Alvarez will just come in and have enough time to hurt Cotto.
To me Martinez's injury only became evident after being hurt in the first by Cotto I feel it was a bit of everything because there is no way he would of fought if he felt he wasn't capable of performing at 90 - 100%
I haven't written off the possibility of Cotto being roided up for that match either, he had steroid acne in the month before the fight, its not hard to believe since guys do tend to get a lot more power when working with Freddie's strength and conditioning coach's. Regardless Martinez was a shell of his former self, Chavez destroyed him in the 12th round and Murray exacerbated the injuries from that match, Martinez should have retired after the JCCJr. match.
