17 of the 24 world title fights Calzaghe fought in, were against fighters who were or became top 10 rated

Manfredo was a fight to build interest in Calzaghe against Hopkins in America, as Manfredo was recognised due to the contender series. also Manfredo was rated at number 10 as SMW by the Ring mag when they fought, I think due to his KO of Pemberton

 

antwun echols never even signed. pudwill wasn't a late replacement, it was joes intention to fight a weakling all along.

he used echols' name to keep himself on the undercard of shot tyson. no way joe is going to get in ring to lose to echols.

in fact Kessler was number 1 in Europe by a long mile, owning and defending multiple titles multiple times unlike joes creeping around fighting weaklings for the wbo.

joe did briefly take the number 1 spot by beating injured Kessler in Cardiff, but relinquished it instantly when he relinquished the titles without even trying to defend them nor offering a rematch with Uninjured Kessler.

 

yeah well at least he manned up in his last few fights - he became a proper titlist in those last few lacy onwards.

sadly that only amounts to about 3 or 4 legit defences - which means hes not HoF at all.
