Floyd is using cotto as a way to show pac that pac needs Floyd and needs to accept whatever Floyd is offering. cotto is doing the same with Floyd to canelo, they are both trying to put pressure on their (should be opponents that is) opponents to give in to their demands since they are the A side. we know for a fact that Floyd is the A side but with canelo and cotto, canelo in all to respect might actually be the A side pac is now saying he wants 50/50 again, he thinks he deserves it for not fighting a real WW in what, 4/5 years ? I don't even remember the last ww pac fought, was it clottey ? I'm really asking, clottey is the last WW I remember pac fighting. Floyd is putting the pressure on pac to just sign on the god damn dotten line
Marquez is one of the few true elites firmly in that Arguello mindset, clearing out what at the time was the most stacked division in boxing (lightweight) while Manny showed his colours by facing the one weak link toilet paper champ DAVID Diaz then hightailing it from Marquez and the rest of them Floyd and Manny are a disgrace
Marquez' resume is pretty poor man, if he's so much better than Pac, then he's a worse cherry picker than him. Juan Diaz twice? Shot Casamayor? Katsidis!? A past it Barrera (who Pac supposedly beat when was past it years ago), Alva ****ing rado? Defend those fights for me.
with all due respect, its hard for jmm to get the "BIG names' and the fighter who bring in the $$$, he just wasn't in the right weight classes and when he was he was too high risk with really no reward. I had NO problem with any of those fights you listed above for jmm. almost all of those fights were nonstop action, back and forth action. I think jmm struggled much more than he should've against most of them but that really is what made most of those fights so good. some of those fights can be remembered as great fights. only in todays day and age can fighting mutli weight champs and champs with multi title defenses be considered let down fights.
But that they were entertaining fights doesn't say anything about the quality of opposition. As you said. He struggled more than he should have. Can you imagine Pac going life and death vs shot Casamayor before Koing him? Or getting badly hurt by Diaz and dropped by Katisidis? Or hell even losing to Chris John (or being in such a close fight if you believe he was robbed)? Pac would be ridiculed here. That level of opposition wasn't good at all. All those fighters didn't amount to anything special. Pac's resume ****s on that and so does Floyd's.
I dont think Marquez really struggled with any of them. The fights were exciting and some of those fighters got some digs on Marquez simply as Nacho Beristain explained, "Marquez was forced to change his style from "boxing masterclass Maestro" t a boxer puncher in order to have a chance to land big fights. In other words, in boxing these days a fighter as good as Marquez has to show vulnerablity if he's to have a chance to land a big fight.
I could see something like this happening as soon as Cotto got the MW belt. I just hope it doesn't happen - Cotto Mayweather 2 would be a huge 'F*** You' to the fans (especially if its at a catchweight).
theres a difference, everything jmm does I don't rate that along with pac. what jmm does has nothing to do with pac, and I agree, if pac struggled with any of those fighters he would be hammered on here with people claiming he must've been off the juice or he got old overnight. what jmm does, what pac does and what Floyd does has no bearing on other fighters. way too much pac and Floyd and pac and jmm are grouped together, they are all separate fighters and what they do has nothing to do with the other. I've always said pac is greater than jmm as for their careers, but h2h jmm is better. he just has pacs # but pac has beaten fighters that would destroy jmm. for careers Floyd and pac are far above jmm. jmm is a true ATG Mexican fighter while Floyd and pac are ATG's, h2h obviously Floyd trumps jmm h2h is a whole different animal than career accomplishments I agree, those fights being good and some very good doesn't mean the level of opposition was good to very good. the level of opposition was average to good at best but we got some really really good nights out of them. sometimes the elite fighters have some of their toughest matches against far inferior opponents. that's why h2h is so different than career accomplishments
It would be giving a giant two fingers to the fans if this fight happens, and nobody should support or buy it if it does.
My opinion is that a lineal middleweight champ shouldn't be able to win and defend it exclusively at catchweights. But whatever. They'll make money, so **** what we think. Another PPV I won't be shelling out for but that means absolutely nothing.
I will boy cott it just like I did the guerrero, ortiz, and both chino fights. O and also how I boycotted Rios & Chris fights.
I didn't know cotto had a exclusive contract with HBO, I didn't think HBO signed fighters exclusively for some time now. I always hear Floyd is SHO and pac is HBO making the fight harfd to make, but I don't have any evidence that pac has an exclusive contract with HBO.. I was under the impression Floyd was the only fighter that has an exclusive contract.... does anyone really know of such contracts or are people thinking since he has been fighting on HBO he has a contract ???
