    bailey,

Yeah, I think it would have been good.

    We don't know.

    Styles make fights.

There's never been truer words spoken.

We don't know how he'd have done against a rangy southpaw.

    He didn't fight many.

The word was s.c.r.a.p.e.d. but it was blanked out because of the r.a.p.e. part.

That's how it read to me.

I think a fight with Dawson would have been interesting too.

    he means 20 of today.

obviously if you go back in history theres hundreds who would tear joes head off inside the distance since joes too easy to hit.

on the other hand 20 of today at smw is difficult, since smw only has a short history - there have barely been 20 smw champions have there? the obvious ones would be jones at smw (at which he didn't use PEDS), toney at smw (again, no history of peds at this weight).
Ward is a plain obvious one, he displays actual acute skulls against elites whereas joe was about outgassing injured or old opponents or beating up weaklings.
NABF champ Antwun Echols, who joe boasted he was signing though in reality no signing was made, would have made short work of joe. echols is now retired injured so cant really be included.

going back further, Byron Mitchell seemed to be getting the better of joe before that fight was stopped for no reason by the welsh ref other than to save joe's record. but Mitchell is too far back to be considered current, he was due to retire when joe chose him.

course prime Hopkins if old hop almost beat joe if not for gass, but he showed no interest in entering the smw division considering LHW and MW more valid.

but naming 20 current USA smws that could beat joe is not easy, in fact I think its impossible. For all his technical faults joe was definitely bordserline world class due to his infinite lung capacity, it always gave him a chance against world classers who were injured or getting on.

BUT....going outside SMW, its simplicity to name 40-50 LHWs or MWs in this era who would beat joe, nevermind 20. outside his small fishbowl of smw, joe gets slaughtered in the USA.

Chad Dawson, wasnt he the fighter who went up from SMW when Calzaghe was champ, and faced several old LHWs who were nowhere near the Calzaghe level and then after Calzaghe retired went back to SMW?

Nah, not banned. But Calzaghe threads should be put in the 'Classic' maybe. The man hasn't fought in 5 years and isn't coming back, why is this in the 'general forum'?

Yes, at present, he certainly is. Although it should be noted the division has only been around like 30 years or so.
