Tyson still has power. He has mentioned that age wasn't a factor in him leaving boxing, it was desire. He wasn't nearly as into boxing as he once was and that certainly showed in some of those latter fights where it was obvious that his once extreme boxing motivation was not there.
Yes but then what could have affected his desire was the fact that he couldn't do the things that he once could. Everyone thinks that they should be just as good at 36 as they were at 20. You are still you but with just more experience and for a non-boxer 36 is still relatively young if you taken the rest of your live into account but for a boxer, taken into accounts all the fights that he had, had and the the hard living he had done outside it, there is just no way that Tyson would have had the same level of physical abilities that he had when he first started out and that would certainly play on his mind and affect his desire.
He wasn't doing those things because his mind was elsewhere. Early on, Tyson was almost machine-like in his training and approach to boxing. He seemed completely absorbed by it. As everyone knows, this didn't stay that way. The lifestyle he was living dictated his not being the same fighter in the ring.
his footwork was neglected as he got older. Tyson had very sophisticated footwork. 'where the **** did he go?' was usually the last thought that went through an opponents head before he hit the canvas. He was always fast but his ability to surprise oppnents diminished with his skills. When it came to Tyson, the likes of Freddie roach, giacachetti etc didn't really know what they were doing, they didn't fully understand tysons formula, what made him lethal like rooney did and they could never put humpty back together again.
Best to ask ettiene. Danny Williams stated that he had never been hit as hard as Tyson hit him and that Tyson punched much harder than Vitali
There is no one on this board that works harder at exploding the mythical garbage written about Tyson by his fan boys than me. But what you've posted above is ridiculous. VK hit Williams a lot more often with punches. Tyson I believe landed one shot which had Danny doing the chicken dance, and hanging on like a limpet. Therefore it is more than reasonable for Danny to claim Tyson hit him harder. The fact that he lasted to the 8th after being down in the 1st, 3rd, and 7th tells you that Vitali was no devastating puncher.
I think Tyson lost his ability to intimidate top level fighters with age. Scared fighters or guys that walk into the ring ready to lose are much easier to KO/TKO.
Yes, I think he lost some of his power with age, but not a significant amount. His hand speed diminished a bit in his later years, and speed is an ingredient of power.
Losing the fear factor post Douglas was what done for him although he did probably peak at 22 which is very unusual for any weight.
