It's Naoya Inoue's to lose. If Inoue beats Omar Narvaez next week he'll clearly be the Fighter of the Year. Obviously, not for the mainstream like HBO, Showtime, Ring, ESPN, etc. But, in my eyes he'll clearly be the Fighter of 2014.

If Inoue does lose, though...there really is no standout this year. You can make a serious case for Terence Crawford, Roman Gonzalez, Amnat Ruenroeng, and Sergey Kovalev.

    This exactly.

Plus Pacquiao and Walters in that bunch.

And then a HUGE drop off after those 6 or 7 guys.

    For beating Alexander? :blood

Collazo is a non-factor, you realize? Blitzing an unstable and semi-retired Ortiz meant nothing. Collazo hasn't been anywhere near world class since he was robbed against Berto, five years ago. He was struggled badly with C-level guys (and losing to one in Hernandez - maybe C+ in his case) before he fought Ortiz.

Being in the conversation requires more than one good win, generally. Shutting out Devon Alexander constitutes one good win in 2014.

Inoue is now FOTY for me. It was between him and Roman G but you cannot deny this guy's brilliant year, stunning.

Might feel hard done by if he doesn't get FOTY, certainly no complaints if he does get it.

Inoue definitely for me. Becoming a world champion in two-divisions in 2014, at the age of 21 with the number of pro fights he had was spectacular. The way he destroyed Omar was just icing on the cake.
