-He would be fighting one of the top potential opponents.
-He could win a lineal title in what would be a new record 5th division.
-He could win a title in a 6th division in his first fight at the weight.
-He would be competing against another future HOF opponent.
    -He could reach 48-0.
-Each could hope to build on their performance against each other from their quality 2012 fight.

I don't think it will happen either way but it would be interesting.

If he fights Cotto, you can damn well bet it won't be at 160. It'll be another classic catch-weight fight. It'll add to his legacy having a MW title too, but if you're going to cement your legacy at another weight you'd surely want to beat the best? Cotto is a name at MW, but I think it's generally agreed the man to beat is Golovkin.

For the Pac fight, I don't really see why the date really matters to either of them that much. Has Pac given a valid reason for not fighting on that date? Has Mayweather given a valid reason for wanrting to fight on that date?

And that is coming from cotto who he beat the first time around. The most meaningful time when he should have fought cotto was back in 2008 when cotto was at WW right after he beat mosley. Beating golovkin at MW holds much weight and would prove something for floyd. Beating cotto again will actually prove nothing.

All the things you mentioned are just decorations.

It should be a Mexican fight date.

    Maximizing revenue.

If Pac got the decision against Bradley in 2012, would Pac fans be alright with the rematch?

All fights are just decorations to some degree. It is what it is. People expect whatever certain fight they want and that is all and they have a tough time being realistic in accepting other top options or being able to properly value them. Moving up to MW to capture the title Hopkins once held would be nice. A nice decoration.

ill ignore the "instead of accepting pac challange" because its clearly troll bait thats being "debated" for lack of a better word in atleast 5 other threads on the front page but no. no i would not support a decision to fight cotto at 160

yes cotto is the 160 champ and it would be floyds first title at that division and all but its just not going to be any different to the fight we saw in 2012? floyd aient going to come in any heavier then he did for the 154 title fight and cotto wont come in much heavier if at all, given floyds history with rematches ud be hard pressed to find a reason why this would be competitive and with only 2 fights left i just want the megafight or atleast someone who can offer something more refreshing (like khans speed)

Floyd is cemented as a top fighter of any era. At this stage everything is decorations and value for money.

In that case no but it still has some merit since bradley clearly beat the guy who stopped pacquiao. In Floyd's case, there's actually no point for him in fighting cotto once more especially now that he said that he had accepted pacquiao's challenge.

well not that i fully support the fight as my previous post states but do you remember when cotto tko2 rodriguez in his first fight with roach and people came in like a horde of fanboys saying how roach had worked wonders with cotto in 1 fight and the new and improved cotto would beat floyd? yeh well i would not mind bumping those threads if the rematch took place.. i mean come on cottos a great fighter but 1 fight under roach and all of a sudden he is this completely diff fighter because he beat rodriguez ?

If Floyd wants to be the rightful MW champ, beating Golovkin proves this than beating Cotto again.

So basically Pac fans don't accept his last 3 fights. I agree.

I don't think I've ever called Mayweather a cherrypicker but if he did fight Cotto it would be a cherrypick, to pick up the mw belt against a guy he beat before who only had one fight at MW weighing in at 155lbs.

It makes more business sense surely to fight Pacquaio as it'd make so much money. He could fight the Cotto-Canelo winner at middleweight after that. And a win over Pacquaio would do a lot more for his legacy than a second win over Cotto would. Plus, practically everybody would be happy if Floyd-Pac got made including the fans, so why is he looking at Cotto instead of Pac?

I hope it's all just a bargaining chip Cotto and Floyd are using in their respective negoiations.
