Derry tweeted about and the new, biggest fight of his life etc and there's a few tweets going around about it, thoughts?
Apparently it's not going to be Abril - maybe a final eliminator of some sort. If Frank could pull it off though it would be a great bit of business.
I'm not the forum police but your spoiling numerous threads with your nonsense now - nobody finds you knowledgeable to hold constructive debates with or entertaining
Why would it be great business, derry would almost certainly lose. If frank did pull it off then it would be a great opportunity for derry but unless you think he's winning or the purse isn't that much then it's not great business
It would be great business as frank would have quickly capitalised on Crolla/matchrooms miss fortune with the Abril fight (I'm not saying I'm pleased what happened to Crolla obviously) and secured Matthews a shot at a legit world title on home soil..infact his own back garden of Liverpool. Yeah Crolla would probably lose but what other option is there? send him out as the challenger away from home on a mission impossible or give him the best opportunity he can to win by providing home advantage In front of 10k mad scousers. It's also good business in the sense of BN subscribers getting to see yet another big show with two world title fights..
Those Boxnation subscribers badly need some fights to view UK hours. The fight itself would be a can fest.
Again adding this fight to the bill isn't great business as it isn't likely to massively affect business at the box office (at least not significantly) and they won't get that many new subscribers because Derry Mathews is in a world title fight (and this comes from someone who is a fan of his) - it would provide a fantastic opportunity for him and a better chance if at Liverpool but I don't see him winning it, getting him in line for the vacant WBO strap makes far more sense in terms of money and opportunity to win than chasing abril IMO
Yeah, he's going to get spanked by Abril, but he's pretty far removed from world level anyway so it is a good payday and won't be too bad for his career taking another loss. And for all we know he could get lucky. Injuries do happen in boxing
I hear what your saying mate and you make an interesting point but in my opinion potential opportunities like this sometimes just make sense even if it's not a direct financial advantage. what I mean by that is frank often talks about taking a punt on an opportunity. Bare with me on this...but what IF Matthews produced the performance of his life and won the fight..?Abril is a good champion but he is not a killer..I can see FW potentially thinking that he could get the WBA in his stable which could lead to some big domestic in house fights such as Matthews defending against The Flannigan - Ormond winner?? I think Flannighan could possibly be a potential star (maybe not world class but very good) so imagine if he was WBA Champ= big news in Manc. It might sound far fetched but he & Hobson did similar with Butler - Hall which was a good payday for both and both have been looked after aFterwards with Butler having the shot at Tete and Hall boxing Cabellero for the vacant belt etc. You also made a good point about the WBO being vacant - and I Agree that's probably the more likely option giving Franks history of going down that route.
