if they would have fought each other 5-7 years ago it would have been top 3 all time, if they fight in 2015 i would say top 5.

    Dont like him.
Dont like the way he fights.
He is a quick punching swarmer.
Lots of gift decisions and a crybaby when he loses.
    Luckey punch.????
Wont admit that he got beat by a better fighter.
    And I could go on.

At this point, not a top twenty.

In 2010 or 2011, might have cracked the top ten.

I'd imagine it would crack the top ten.

These guys are both considered ATG's and even though they're a bit past their primes, they're still universally considered 2 of the best fighters P4P in the sport.

I'd have to say this would easily be the biggest fight between 2 top tier fighters since Leonard and Hagler, 2 P4P stalwarts who similarly met a little bit past their respective primes as well. So essentially, a Floyd- pacman fight would be the biggest fight of the last 25+ years.

People always like to wish they are seeing events that are more epic than they really are. Sort of why various boxing articles, rankings, and lists are often rewritten by the same men completely differently years and sometimes a decade or longer as it takes time to grow proper valuing of what they had accomplished.

There is a great compilation of "top 10 heavyweights ever" lists from many writers from the 1920's through to contemporary (it went until the mid-2000's I believe)... It is amazing to see how the opinions changed decade to decade and what writers thought of the then current champ, etc. Dramatic changes that have been altered to the general state of how we now view all those fighters.

"Even though (I) favor Mayweather to win, (I) believe that the world will remember Pacquiao more than Mayweather. Pacquiao will earn more respect than Mayweather. There is no doubt about that. With Manny Pacquiao they are going to say 'wow, he fought all these guys, fought tough battles and gave us all these fights. Well, who has the better legacy, Pacquiao or Mayweather?" Dela Hoya said.

Many understand that Mayweather briefly retired to avoid fighting Margarito and Paul Williams when they were at their peak as well as possessing a fighting style that would've troubled him. Also, both Margarito and Williams lobbied to fight Floyd, but once he retired they willingly fought each other. Well, that's water under the bridge now. All that's left is for Mayweather to fight Pacquiao, and give the fans what they really want.

Mayweather can run his record to 60-0 and retire, it won't matter. If he doesn't face Pacquiao before he hangs up his gloves, that is what he'll be most remembered for. And not fighting Pacquiao will be his everlasting legacy. If Floyd Mayweather doesn't fight Manny Pacquiao, his name may still one day be lumped with the above icons, but it will be indisputable that his legacy will be the most hollow of the group.

Starting to think that no one involved in this fight actually wants it.

Why is May 2 so important?

    Here are the FACTS people:

    1. Only 3 of the top 10 boxing PPVs have happened in May
    2. Since some of you think September is the other big month, only 2 crack the top 10...so STFU. For a fight this big THE DATE DOES NOT MATTER.

    3. Why don't you all look up the date Floyd vs Pac was originally gonna happen on? HINT: IT WASN'T MAY OR SEPTEMBER.

I'm not sure if team Mayweather are holding fast to May 2nd because Canelo will probably not budge and that would mean Cotto might need to negotiate another fight (possibly screwing Arum). Possibly Bob is worried about losing that payday I don't know. Maybe both fighters are being divas with Floyd believing it to be his date and Manny wanting some aspect of control, again, I don't know.

What I do know is that fighting about a single date for the biggest fight in about 30 years is total bullsh*t.

So according to your numbers, 30% of the biggest PPVs in boxing history have happened in 1 specific month (8% of the calendar), and you wonder why they are targeting that month?

50% of the biggest PPVs in boxing history happened just 2 months
(16.7% of the calendar), and you wonder why the fighters/promoters would see that having fights during those months as 'a big deal'?

    Um, okay.

edit: puncherschance beat me too it. :good

At this point, i give more of a chance Cotto trained by Roach to beat Mayweather, than today's Pacquiao.

    Who would beat Mayweather today?

    Cotto, Pac, neither?
