he has just made it political by accepting a british honour which he has always claimed not to be... ffs his uncles did time.. they are a respected republican family:-(

and dont compare him with barry the brit... republicans hated mcguigan... and now they will hate barnes... have 2 say im gutted by thisgood

 

Personally I think its a great example to set for the people of Northern Ireland/ Republic of Ireland and I for one was happy to see him accept it.

Yes many people who are stuck in the past may not agree with it but these peoples views do not reflect the views of the vast majority of people in Northern Ireland anymore, esp the views of Paddy Barnes's generation...

and also if he was willing to represent Northern Ireland and fight in the Commonwealth Games then why would he not be prepared to be honoured by the head of the country he was representing? Turning down the honour would reflect alot worse on him than accepting it given his participation

dont talk bull... what about showing an example to the whole of ireland.... btw hes approached first to see if he wants put on the list... if he doesnt accept that invitation to go on the list... nothing more is said about it so techniqually he isnt offered the award... many a sport star from the nationalist community have turned these down in the past :good

 

Paddy Barnes is an example of the future, no time in this day and age to be stuck in the past, the war is over Fra, move with the times, **** sake the queen is only a figurehead anyway.

Looks like andy lee is not going to get much of a honeymoon as new champ. The WBO ultimatum has ended any hopes of andy making even one single voluntary defence to bank some change.

Andy must reach agreement with bjs by jan 12th ....or else it goes to purse bids. Minimum purse bid is $200,000 of which andy as champ would get 75%. Andy be doing well to gross150k...nett would be what?...100k. Hardly life changing money.

 

And Im pretty sure Barnes wont give 2 ****s what they think about him. He probably wont lose sleep over what people on this forum think about him either.

All the people whining about him taking an ME should get off their holes, do something with their lives to the point that they're offered an ME(MBE,OBE, whatever) and turn it down, to show how principled they are.

Instead of whinging on internet forums about someone who did something with their lives through decades of hard work and dedication for accepting an token honour.

Its like the McIlroy nonsense all over again.

Barnes didnt win his medals for Britain, he didnt even win them for Ireland, he won them for himself. He was the one that was getting up in the morning to do his runs, day after day, year after year. It was him who dieted. It was him who got in the ring and threw the punches and took them.

Those medals are hanging on HIS mantlepiece, no one elses.

People need to move on with their lives.

He does it for himself,like all other sportsmen. Especially ones involved in individual sports.

Hes a grown man and he can make his own decisions
