Is Cotto still in his prime?

I think his prime was over after Pac. He's still going down hill and I think he has over grown his body to the point where he cant perform at his highest level. Probably a culmination of a long boxing life starting in the amateurs and starving to make 140 back when.

 

Nobody in this forum other than Pac****s like yourself has said that. I think you're just so protective of Pacquiao and his legacy that you just imagine others think it.

 

And Martinez fans all said Cotto was shot and Sergio was cherry picking him. Now they are saying Martinez was shot and Cotto cherry picked Sergio!

All kidding aside, Miguel still looks prime these days, though I would not usually say that about most fighters at the age of 34.

Right now he is just a superior boxer with a vast knowledge of the game and loads of experience, that is being brilliantly matched.

 

I'm a Martinez fan, and I thought the fight was a toss up. But I did have a tough time believing Martinez would get bullied by a smaller Cotto.

 

so are you implying that ones age is the best judgment on determining the current state of a fighters, hell, even athletes primes. I find this on par with most of your opinions, ignorance bursting out at every angle.

I think one day you are going to hit the lottery and have a couple posts that will make sense from the masses. there are way too many contributing factors in regards to each and every fighter/athlete that makes one age almost irrelevant when trying to draw conclusions in regards to their current state of ones career.

Um, his prime was at 140lbs, and spilled a bit into 147lbs.

He is still a good, world-class fighter in the 154lb/160lb era of his career, but not prime, no.

 

Golovkin would knock Cotto out cold easily. Alvarez will also beat Cotto, Golovkin beats them both.

He is. People tend to forget the more seasoned and accomplished you get as a boxer, you fight great opponents who train insanely, and with the first fight you fail to KO, people start saying "he's past his prime". He's 35, a family man. For a boxer who lives, eats, and trains right, it's a very good age with good physical conditions and a lot of experience. For a lousy boxer, 30 might be too old to box any more.

I'll give Alvarez credit for beating Cotto up, but with the asterix that Cotto was way out of his prime and way above his prime weight. It's still a fight I want to see because Cotto is owed a thrashing for snatching the lineal title like that when he knows damn well he'll never beat a top 10 middleweight.

Alvarez will have to defend against GGG to get full legitimization imo. Alvarez outweighed GGG in the ring even when fighting at 154 iirc. No reason to duck him.

 

Golovkin is the mandatory for the winner of Cotto/Alvarez, but Cotto Alvarez fight might be in some trouble, so I read. I hope HBO puts up the money for Golovkin/Cotto.
