I think people have now started to underestimate the eubanks/benn/collins era. Go back and watch eubank/benn one if anyone has the time. Including the americans it was a golden era for the super middleweights or around that weight at the time. Collins due to the fact he didnt have flashy skills as such is completely underrated today. Yeah he did get eubanks/benn on the way down but he was still a very very good fighter. I dont think reid would have been able to hang with him tbh as good as reid was on his day.
Neither were very good to be honest. Collins had the ugliest style of a world-class fighter I have ever seen. And Reid lost badly to a 47-year-old Malinga for crying out loud. In terms of resume, it's night and day. Collins outfoxed and outsped Tinley/Sosa-conqueror Tony Thornton rather impressively as a big outsider, outboxed and stopped Chris Pyatt (a better fighter than Reid) and arguably beat Reggie Johnson who had just gone 50/50 with Toney. Not to mention Eubank x 2 and Benn x2! Hardly the stuff of Vincenzo Nardiello. Collins would've been a massive betting favourite over Reid, that's for sure.
I think ive heard it all in here now. Chris Pyatt a better fighter than Robin Reid? bronze medal winner brilliant amateur career Wins WBC title at 25 in Italy. Yeah he blew hot and cold but what a **** comparison. Also Collins is Over rated on here beyond belief. Give Calzaghe his best fight i was there that night and thought Reid had won massive booing against result. However i have watched that fight back many times and Joe does clearly win.... Close though.
A bit? More like massively overrated! I've never liked Collins. He took on our best when they were past it and acts as if he done them in their prime. Check his opinion on Reid when Reid won the WBC Belt in Italy (pretty sure Steve was the WBO Champ at the time), he is like 'Yeah he's got a decent belt' and just had the look on his face that screamed 'I don't want to know him'. Reid, on top form, would have made an **** out of Collins.
Who did Reid ever beat? Vincenzo Nardiello!! The laughing stock of boxing who quit in almost every fight it seemed! He was two classes below the great Rosi, who an ultra-sharp Pyatt gave a terrific fight. Pyatt beat Sumbu Kalambay, who was arguably a better defensive counter-puncher than even Floyd Mayweather, let alone Sugar Boy Malinga. There's no comparison.
Collins using the style he used against Thornton, covering every inch of the ring would bamboozle Rob..
Nardiello floored the granite-jawed Wharton and was well on his way to Lacy-ing him until he was controversially stopped on a cut, Eubank didn't come close to putting Wharton over despite the fact that he hit him with everything bar the kitchen sink and was facing a one-eyed man for much of the fight. Nardiello>>>Eubank Nardiello beat Malinga, the same Malinga who'd just whopped Benn in his previous fight (Benn was robbed against Eubank in the rematch) and had previously been shafted by the judges against Eubank, losing a highly controversial SD which even Eubank himself admitted he'd lost during his post-interview with the South-African TV network who were covering the fight. Nardiello>>>Eubank x 2 Nardiello was robbed against Park Si-Hun in the Seoul Olympics, the same Park Si-Hun who would go onto with a controversial decision over Roid Jones in the final. Had Nardiello been awarded the decision I think his awkwardly slick southpaw style would've given him Jones fits (and we all know Jones struggled against southpaws). In fact, I think he would've beaten Jones. Granted, I doubt many will share my opinion on that though. To balance it out, Nardiello did lose to Benn too, although only because he was wearing a pair of boots that had mysteriously had the grips removed from them shortly before the fight (Barry Hearn was up to his old tricks again me thinks). Also Ray Close, who was robbed horribly not once but twice against Eubank, does hold a 10th round stoppage victory over Nardiello. I'd say Eubank and Nardiello were roughly on the same level it's just that Eubank took the game much more seriously than the notoriously lazy and often disinterested German-born Italian and was the beneficiary of at least half a dozen gift decisions.
Eubank easily beat Malinga and Close, Benn easily beat Nardiello, & Wharton was never the same after the Eubank beating. Vincenzo Nardiello couldn't tie the laces of Eubank or Jones..
What utter hogwash. Close won both of those fights clearly. You'd have to be blind or have a serious man crush on Eubank to score either of those fights for him. Even Eubank admitted that Malinga was the deserved winner. Wharton was fine after losing to Eubank. In fact, that's when he scored all his biggest wins and looked his most impressive. I don't think Nardiello would beat the pro version of Jones aka the roided to the gills one, but he would've beaten the one that fought in the amateurs. Eubank against a fully motivated Nardiello is a toss up for me. Eubank hated southpaws. Nardiello>>>Schommer.
Eubank didn't 'admit' anyone beat him other than Watson in their rematch and Schommer.. You're lying.. If you score that first fight for Close I'm lost for words and have nothing to say to you.. Wharton himself admits he was never ever the same..
