Did Nigel Benn have a glass heart?

For me, any fighter who retires like a ***** like Benn did against Collins shows a serious lack of heart.

Especially when you compare to some fighters who won't stop fighting until they're sparked on the canvas. Look at Ricky Burns; now I sometimes rag on him for his recent performances but you can't deny he has a hell of a lot of heart.

When you compare Benn quitting because he was getting a pasting from Collins to Burns fighting on with a broken jaw... it's laughable.

I only excuse quitting IF the boxer has suffered a bad leg/ankle because then they can't reasonably continue fighting if they can't stand.

So, did Benn have a glass heart?

He was v. emotional and when you have an idiot trainer in Kevin Sanders shouting in your ear - 'Youre getting a beating', 'I'm pulling you out soon because I won't see you beaten', 'You're going to take a hiding, Nige' etc, how do you expect Benn to feel!? If he had Jimmy Tibbs or Dennie Mancini telling him he could do it and revving him up, his heart would've still been in it..

Against McClellan he had fractures to jaw, rib and cheek bone and a busted kidney, & x-ray at hosp showed a shadow over the brain. He was unstoppable

The thread starter has never boxed.

No offence champ but you'd be much happier on the general. :hi:

Look at some of his recent threads ffs...

    1. Who is the biggest coward in boxing today?
    2. Frampton would shatter Rigo's glass.
    3. Cotto is still a bum.
    4. Who will be the next bum to get exposed?
    5. Do you respect boxers who are duckers?
    6. Biggest ducker in boxing?
    7. Will Ward duck Groves?

He has a point with the fight against Collins

Thought he was looking for an easy way out early in the fight because he was shot and only interested in the Wonga.

Benn was on the verge on retiring prior to this fight I think he realised in the fight that his body could no longer take it, if anyone deserved one last pay day it was him, how his heart can ever be questioned is beyond me the man was fearless and he loved nothing more than a tear up
