Do you guys think this is a fair statement? Cotto isn't 'prime' by any stretch...he has mileage due to the wars. But can it be said that he is fighting smarter these days, and has a better trainer now in Roach that suits his style?
How do you guys factor that in? In where Cotto is...as far as being effective from here on?
    Cheers.

Unfortunately no , The man is not in his prime anymore .

He can still give you hell , especially with that signature hook in his Arrsenal .

    Body or head . Don't matter .

Its a debilitating punch he possesses .

I just don't wanna see you guys say Cotto was shot when Canelo beats him. Instead of giving Canelo credit were credit is due

Cotto is past prime but still operating at world level. If Canelo beats Cotto, it would be a massive win for him, the biggest of his career.

Canelo would always beat him because he's the better fighter.

His credit will be slightly diminished by Cotto not being at 140 or 147, and having no good wins in recent years.

But that said, Alvarez is a better fighter today than Cotto ever was.

Translation: I only started watching boxing about 3-4 years ago, and have missed Cotto's entire career until his loses to p4p top stars and a cheater with plaster in his gloves.

Fair enough...Cotto's real magic were in his fights before he fought the cheater with the hands with stone on them. Outside of Cotto's early success in the Pac fight, you really haven't caught anything noteworthy imo.

Cotto's prime was from 2006 to 2011. He was looking kind of shop worn by the Mayweather fight. Looked even worse against Austin Trout. Took an easy fight to set up a payday fight with Martinez, and then got the Miracle in the Garden when Sergio couldn't stand on two legs.

Cotto was good at 140. Maybe as good as Alvarez at 154. Idk. Alvarez has wins over Trout and Lara at the weight, while Cotto doesn't have a lot of signature wins at 140.

On moving up, Cotto has Mosley and that's about it. Margarito and Pacquiao destroyed him.

And it's easy to tell a person who doesn't box by the weight they lend to the handwrap controversy :deal

That's why Margacheato has 0% win rate against quality opponents after being exposed for loaded gloves right? That's just coincidence? It was Cotto who destroyed Margarito when Margarito didn't have concrete in his gloves. Funny how that works.

Cotto is shot to hell, knows it, and probably won't even fight Canelo.

Coming off his career best victory. Not bang in his prime but not far removed. He might have lost half a step but he's a lot fitter and much more technical than he used to be.

Cotto today certainly beats Cotto of 6 years ago.

I think Cotto at 140 and 147 was pretty good. He showed beautiful skills in all those defenses of his title and against Judah and Mosley. Canelo hasn't impressed me like that yet, what with Mayweather and Lara, but he's young yet. But if you put Demetrius Andrade or Golovkin in front of him and he wins, you will make a believer out of me.
