I see him being fantasy matched up with people like Margarito....Thurman needs to cut his hair or something because his look sends the wrong message to the public......people are wanting him to be like a Ricardo Mayorga type of guy....but he's being trained by Pat Burns....who from my knowledge has not trained many one dimensional fighters as a matter of fact Jeff Lacy is the only one that comes to mind......Thurman talks with a lisp and has an amateur pedigree was training with people like Winky Wright since his younger days.....this guy isn't a a Margarito or Mayorga..... After his fights he can give you an intelligent break down of why his fight turned out the way it was....dude actually studies his craft... he chose to fight an awkward fighter in his last bout, learning how to box against various styles is very necessary for a fighter to become an elite fighter..... If Thurman can resist staying true to his craft and avoid having the public demand he fight in a style that his not to his best benefit then he will be just fine....he needs to get that chin toughened up some.....
Because people Are fools. Thurman and Brook are the future of 147lb division. And that will be a fight that would probably happen.
I thought he did ok. I understand why he fought the way he did and I believe he accomplished what he intended to. People can hate all they want.
Exactly. Bundu doesn't seem easy to KO. He was undefeated, and had good defense. He was catching most of Thurman's output on his gloves arms and elbows. It's hard to crack through that type of defensive shell, when the guy is staying in it. Similar to Pac vs Clottey.
Because as a smart boxer he is not that exciting and there is nothing to make him stand out from the rest of the good boxers. As a banger he is a lot of fun to watch, you know something exciting is being lined up. KT is a good good prospect trying to become the champ, but there are lots of them out there at his weight class. There are 8+ other boxers at that weight that are equally talented and just as exciting.
Better question: Why won't the public accept Thurman as a mortal? This guy has more imaginary wins than anybody in the sport.
I think Thurmas is my favorite up and comer. He can indeed box better than is perceived but he also needs a lot of work in all aspects of his game. He seems eager to learn though. Him, cwnelo and a few others put most of todays fighters to shame in terms of being a man and looking for challenges. Seems fighters these days are content to be milked, while these two actually are seeking out the tough fights.
Its not that Thurman is a master boxer, its just that he clearly has enough pop to put fear into the hearts of his opponents, he was able to fight Bundu as efficiently as he did because Bundu was scared of his power and didn't rush in after being dropped early. Which gave Keith a chance to show off his boxing skills because to Bundu it wasn't worth the risk of getting KO'd. Keith is good but he still has a lot to learn and his chin is still a huge question mark.
Keith Run Time Thurman is smart. He tells you he's coming to take your head off but he rides his unicycle faster then you think.
Thurman created that knockout persona by running his mouth and the people came to expect that and when he don't deliver then he can't get mad when people boo. He needs to restructure his rhetoric and tone down the knockout talk. He can box and that needs to be his emphasis. Bottom line, he set the bar too high.
cause the loudest boxing clicques are usually Floyd or Pacquiao fans. Both of these hard core fan bases have made it a point to say that their fighters are the only show in town.
Same reason they thought all Lara did was run against Canelo . They don't understand what they are looking at.
He doesn't shut up about ko s and destroying fighters what do you expect people to say when he doesn't en try and runs about just trying to nick rounds
