Either fight a 'tune up' for a fringe title, something like a WBA international then win that and miraculously be made mandatory for a kilts belts,

Or skip that stage as he'll see it 'below' him and come straight in to fight for a voluntary defence... Money talks & if it can be sold an angle will be found for sure

A really dumb question but I have never really got my head around how the ranking system works across the various bodies, can anyone tell me please?

The ranking system works by who kisses who's **** most.

    Boxing politics.

Like Silent_Service says, money talks and Haye brings a lot of £££££ to the table.

That's my basic understanding but I'm genuinely interested in how it's "suppose" to work as never got my head around it.

Well .. In effect the way it's supposed to work, is similar to a football league, beat people of a higher reputation , standing to pass them.

In the uk the old fashioned way would be an apprenticeship fighting on small hall shows, maybe winning an area title, progressively stepping up to English title then British, followed by commonwealth & euro .. Before mixing it on international scene followed by world honours

Once established it's fair to say it'd be pointless to fight for an area again, but common sense should prevail..

Now with bodies have an array of titles, international silver, continental an so on, it's about making money more than anything

If Briggs can be ranked at 6 by WBA...then all bets are off

Depends who his promoter is and how big the envelope is on his return , Seems to have a good footing with the WBA so wouldnt rule out that route should he ever return , is he doesnt fight within the first 6 months of 2015 he should forget about it and just continue his exotic lifestyle travelling the world and banging cows
