People don't generally believe Ward could beat a prime Calzaghe do they?

I've read through Serges post about the subject, and they seem to confirm my opinion that the hand injury wasn't the issue, Wards attitude was. Regardless if Ward would have fought Bute later on, it was a duck at the present time. He had a chance to unify titles against the most relevant opponent since he was done kicking Frochs and Kesslers ****. Bute was even ready to leave his backyard even though he was the bigger draw :blood

Ward didn't go out of his way to fight Dawson. He dragged his man down a weightclass and fought him on his backyard. I don't think Ward had a lot ridning on draining him, he just didn't want to risk beeing outmuscled at LHW. Quite typical for how Ward goes on about his business.

So Ward felt Dirrell and Bute were the most dangerous oppponents. That's quite interesting, considering those were the two guys he never ended up fighting ... :think

How could he have fought Dirrell I think he is just got back in the ring due to his " brain injury " suffered at the hands of double A?

Andre not wanting to fight him when Froch did, doesn't constitute as a duck IMHO.

A duck is when a guy doesn't want to fight someone, because he's scared of him.

Andre didn't say he'd never fight him.

He said he didn't want to fight him at that point.

    That was his prerogative.

    Everyone's circumstances are different.

    Andre wanted some time out.

Froch was disappointed with his performance against Andre, and wanted another big fight ASAP.

When I said that Andre went out of his way for Dawson, I meant that Chad wasn't in his weight class, and IMO, he was looking to make a statement.

But the weight issue ruined everything.

Now if you believe that it wasn't Andre's intention to drain him, why did he make the fight?

Look at my head to head breakdown in my previous post.

Chad was also a southpaw, he was just as tall, he had a bigger reach, and he was far more proven, having beaten better fighters.

So why would a guy who was scared of Lucian Bute, have then gone out and fought Chad Dawson?

How does that make any sense?

Like I stated in a previous post I think Andre Ward acted funny before his schedueled fight against Andre Dirrell in Super Six. But I also agree that Dirrell was more to blame, because had he choosen to stay in the tournament, the fight would probably have happened.

The Showtime execs were going to,force that fight that's why they threatened both Shaw and Goosen with legal action..

You're saying it's okay to avoid a promised and highly anticipated unification fight if it's done because you want a time out. That's quite a claim, if you think about it. Imagine if Wladimir Klitschko would have ducked David Haye because he needed to fix his house, or Emmanuel Pacquiao would have ducked his rival Juan Manuel Marquez because he was off for a vacation to Rome. They would get torch-wielding mobs going after them.

    Surely.

Not everything, it was still a good performence from Ward who I also think showed some improvements in terms of offensive ability. He calls himself Son of God, but The Surgeon would have been more fitting. Dawson looked weakened at 168, however.

He ducked Bute so he could get the time to take his kids to Disney Land or whatever. That makes as much sense as Vitali Klitschko pulling out against Lennox Lewis because his uncle was throwing a birthday party. Regardless, it's still a duck.

Yeah, I think it's how it would have ended. Bloody bad luck Andre Dirrell has such a supportive family, because otherwise he maybe would have felt forced to stay in the tournament so he could pay his ****ing rent. Now he could just refear to Dr Shaw Hi and run to his mums and dads house instead

Prime Calzaghe doesn't lose to anyone under 175lb period.

It would be a great fight prime for primer, I just think Ward's boxing style and his technical genius would make him almost impossible to beat. Only a big heavy hitter like Golovkin could beat him and at that it would have to be a lucky punch to put Ward in danger first off. Calzaghe was a great boxer, technically brilliant but Ward is arguably better technically. Calzaghe had decent power but not mind blowing destructive power. I gotta for Ward by UD by about 3-4 rounds.

Good fight. I think Calzaghe would outwork Ward with high work rate, flurries of punches and all round better conditioning.
