    Ha!

I've just asked Serge on another thread regarding Joe, who he thinks will win between Stiverne and Wilder.

This thread about the greatest is still going strong due to good honest fan opinions who feel he is and butt hurt haters who cant stand that Calzaghe beat their heros.
Yes Calzaghe is the greatest SMW ever

21 SMW title defences WBO IBF WBC WBA SMW titles,
    - Kessler (WBC WBA undefeated champ) undefeated and not suffering double vision
    - Lacy (IBF undefeated champ) Americas next big thing and mini Tyson
    - Eubank one of the greatest SMWs ever and beaten at the same age as Kessler when Ward beat him
    - Mitchell 2 time WBA SMW champ and only ever beaten clearly at SMW by Calzaghe, many felt Mitchell had beaten Ottke
    - Reid who many felt beat Ottke, beat undefeated Magee who became WBA champ
    - Woodhall who fought Beyer to a close decision, beat future WBC SMW champ Catley
    - Veit (WBO int champ 45-1 only beaten by Calzaghe) who was only beaten by world champs or fighters who became and has a win over undefeated 27-0 Braehmer (current LHW title holder)
    - Brewer former SMW champ
    - Bika who nearly beat Ward years later
    - Starie who beat undefeated future LHW champ Woods
    - Sheika when top 10 and coming off a win over G Johnson
    - Mkertchyan who became European SMW champ beating 26-0 world rated Chanet

Thats going to take some beating

and thats not even all of it

Dudes. I'm a MASSIVE Calzaghe fan. But he's far from the greatest super middleweight of all time. Froch and Ward have already beaten more good fighters AT 168.

Calzaghe is possibly h2h the BEST supermiddleweight, but he never had the great opponents to prove his greatness in terms of resume. Eubank, Lacy, and Kessler are the only real names on there and they aren't enough.

Now do I think Calzage would mow through Ward and Froch and everyone they've beaten? Of course. But Froch in particular deserves more credit for fighting the guys he's fought.

Calzaghe's greatness is in his length of reign at 168 and the win over Hopkins at 175, which was a big deal since Hopkins hadn't really lost since Jones and was p4p #3 at the time. That was a HUGE win.

    But it was at 175.

On that list, I would say possibly all of them. Its very impressive and the best SMW resume

:patsch No they havent. How do you work that out?

21 SMW title defences WBO IBF WBC WBA SMW titles,
    - Kessler (WBC WBA undefeated champ) undefeated and not suffering double vision
    - Lacy (IBF undefeated champ) Americas next big thing and mini Tyson
    - Eubank one of the greatest SMWs ever and beaten at the same age as Kessler when Ward beat him

    - Kessler already beaten by Calzaghe
    - Froch who has only won vacant titles, one being one Calzaghe threw away, the other being one a Calzaghe victim threw away and never beaten a top SMW
    - Bika beaten clearer by Calzaghe
    - Abraham coming off 2 clear S6 losses and done nothing at SMW
    - Green beaten by old SMW journeyman Johnson, who when prime lost to Sheika in a box off to face Calzaghe
    - Dawson who has no SMW pedigree
    - Rodriguez whos best SMW win is?

Anyone who really thinks Wards on par and close to bettering Calzaghe is either very bias or plain stupid.

    * Lacy prime undefeated world champ
    * Kessler, prime undefeated unified world champ
    * Mitchell prime, only lost by disputed SD to rival champ Ottke
    * Veit, 45-1, on top form having been a defending champ
    * Eubank, younger than Kessler, Bute, Froch, Steiglitz today and younger when he faced Calzaghe than froch was when he faced Ward, than Bute was when he faced Froch, than Kessler was when he faced Ward

In fact Brewer was the oldest at 32 which is younger than Bute, Froch and Kessler today and Calzaghe beat Brewer sandwiched between good wins over Zuniga and Pemberton, which is possibly the fighter on the worse form on that list in terms of losses and in the time of Brewer winning a world title to the Calzaghe defeat, all of those losses had been contraversial except the Calzaghe loss

None and I mean none of those fighters were great !

None will ever be first ballot hall of famers no matter how much spin u put on it ! The majority of the names you listed were journeymen or belt holders ... Neither of them were of A caliber ..

Makes todays era look bad, with the champs best win is a faded, past best, unwell, rusty, double vision suffering fighter from that list, and the current number one was beaten by that fighter.
Or that faded Bika is still in todays top 10 and gave the champ all kinds of problems.
Eubank was a SMW great and Calzaghe has the Hopkins and Jones wins, who are first ballet hall of famers.

Ward and arguably Froch have better resumés than Calzaghe. He has some big names on his card sure, but a few out of prime. Ward and Froch fought their big opponents at their prime. I certainly would pick Ward to beat Froch prime vs prime.
