so many people I respect speak of him as a god...and I tend to keep my opinion a bit muted really cause I get into too many discussions I'll never really win....but I too think that about dempsey.....there...I've said it.
I think Jack Dempsey has to take the cake. You still have people who rank him in their top five both on legacy and head to head ability, and frankly I don't think there's enough to support it.
I also could use some clarification on who exactly Greb never fought. And Johnson had better beat Langford. It wouldn't look good for a guy with the ambition of being the 1st black HW champion of the world in history to get his 4ss kicked by a 23 old kid who was barely a proper MW. Assuming, of course, you don't have a game going on. Otherwise don't mind me.
Yeah, Dempsey is probably the most overrated by those who really rate him. I think most here have a pretty reasonable attitude towards him, though. Jimmy Young is also quiet wildly overrated by his fans on this board. I think Duran merits such a high rating, that I can't really say he's overrated. I tend to get a bit annoyed that he, according to his fans, for some reason was out of shape for every big fight he lost, though.
Only fair to factor the anti Dempsey element into the equation, who are arguably now even more wide of the mark.
True to some extent. But a lot of the anti-Dempsey arguments are usually in retaliation to those which harbor Dempsey knocking out a prime Holmes in 3.
Agree. Duran has cemented his legacy as a p4p giant among greats, but a lot of excuses are made for some of his less than flattering performances.
Overrated by who ? By some journalists: 1.Liston (To me he is the most overrated) 2.Frazier (Joe has only 37 fights with 4 lossess) 3.Patterson 4.W. Klitschko 5.Foreman

at heavyweight Ali. He was great but not the greatest and his performance in the Williams is way overrated. Big Cat was a punching bag by then so it only SEEMED that Ali was untouchable in those days. Didnt have much power and only head hunted Also Holyfield, a win one lose the next fighter. The fact that he won the title 3X seems irrevelent to me. I felt the choice KO mag made back in the late 90s was way off (Holyfield ranked 3rd behind Ali & Louis) it just goes to show, writers can write whatever they want (If they like you enough) At 147 of course, Ray Leonard and then there's "the great" Charley Burley who everyone supposedly ducked. What a bunch of krap. Some people will believe anything they read outside of him there's really no one else except Zarate. A friend of mine once spoke about him with great awe so I thought he must have really been something but when I finally saw for myself, I was comepletely unimpressed
