They were both amazing fighters, true ATG's and two of my favorites.. But neither of them qualify as the G.O.A.T
Roy maybe Leonard no way Roy looked untouchable in his prime Leonard lost to Duran and almost to hearns Hearns always had his number
Two of the greatest p4p fighters of all time and Leonard went 3-1-1 against them... And that's supposed to count against him how?
, Yea in 1981 Hearns had his number eh, that's why he was getting slammed all around the ring at Caeser's Palace, and winded up getting blasted out in the 14th when he could no longer stand up.. Leonard was more was waaaaaaaaayyyy more durable than Hearns, Leonard was stopped only once at 41, Hearns was stopped 5 TIMES:deal, Leonard was physically superior to Hearns in every way, especially chin... Listen to them talk now, Leonard is as clear as a sunny day on Malibu beach, Hearns sounds like he has brain damage...
If Roy Jones and Leonard are the two best fighters youve ever seen you need to watch a lot more boxing... Leonard I can kind of see the argument if you squint really hard and ignore that his number of top opponents is pretty shallow. Roy Jones, please, you might as well call Kimbo Slice the greatest fighter you ever saw when he was knocking out all those bums in his backyard on Youtube. The only difference was Roy was doing it on PPV. Lipstick on a pig.
Leonard was better than Roy Jones, shouldn't even be debatable.. Best fighter i ever saw was the 66 -67 Ali...
The biggest problem we have here is the assumption that the two best YOU'VE seen must be the best ever. Someone sure has an ego.
If SRL he had about another 100 fights and won about 90% of them, then he likely could have been the best ever. As is, he had an absolutely amazing career and is extremely talented, but he simply never fought enough to be in the top echelons of the sport, but the talent was there to be as good as anyone.
i dont think he was any more durable than Hearns. hearns just faced more bombers than Leonard and more fights including near his prime Hagler, Roldan, Barkley Leonard never faced any of them and only faced one big hitter in his whole career If he was more durable than Hearns, Kevin Howard wouldnt have decked him Kevin wouldnt have decked Tommy that's for sure also, got wobbled by slapper Geraldo, floored by Lalonde, twice by Hearns, twice by Norris, and starched by blown up past his prime featherweight Hector camacho in fact, Leonard has been getting wobbled since his second pro fight, Rodriguez, and Eklund so far I count more wobbles from Leonard than from hearns and those are the facts best fighter ever? that would be quite a stretch for a guy with a 36-3-1 record even a win over Norris wouldnt have done it, so considering the loss to Norris and the way he lost, HELL NO!!! wins over Pryor & Curry, both prime, wouldve helped his status immeasurably but sadly, he has neither he can boast of i'm sorry, but there is way too little in way of accomplishments to even come close Roy Jones however is a very good candidate. too bad he turned into a steppingstone/punching bag prime Ali is good but even his best performances are overrated.
Money has changed everything,if you earn millions everytime you fight.you don't fight every month.and also the money is not there. And it's almost next to impossible fight every month against quality opponent and win most of the time.your opponent probably fights 2times a year.and is way more fresh come fight time. We should just let it go the exceptations that boxers should fight every month. It's nice to have +100fights.but in the end, skills are the only thing what matters.and SRL is up there with the greatest.he belongs to true A class with other greats.
Nope...but he is way way up there... IMO. People knock Leonard because of career length. But the fact is...no matter how you spin it, he beat three, possibly four ATG's. If you can't recognize that...you aren't looking objectively. He did it in the ring, and his record, while not the most lengthy, speaks for itself...Really not even worth debating.
not the greatest fighter ever but in terms of what he brought to the ring and how he looked vs other atg's he has to be up there, roy too.
