Longevity is only one criteria for measuring an ATG. Level of Competition, performance are others.

Nobody gives a **** about the WBO belt and meaningless defenses.

You say Calzaghe didn't look an unbeatable monster, what difference does it matter how he looked. At super middleweight and LHW he was an unbeatable monster or he would have lost. :patsch

Replied to the wrong post. Apologies

    :?

Roy was an unbeatable monster at SMW. Calzaghe was not.
It sure makes a difference how you perform.:deal

    :rofl

Roy beats that ass every time. Even James Toney would have been a betting favoutite against Calzaghe. Too much skills man :deal

Ward vs Calzaghe would be about even money.

Calzaghe was a SMW. What SMW was he not willing to face?
Was Ward looking to face Bute?
What do you feel are Frochs top 3 wins?
Who did Toney fight at SMW?
I doubt there will be an answer

Hard to argue against Joe being the greatest Super Middle.....and I personally can't stand him and his style plus his well timed and managed career however on paper its really a none issue. Sad but true.

    bailey,

We all know the facts regarding the Eubank fight.

You, like everyone else, are entitled to your opinion.

But you cannot argue against stone cold facts.

    bailey,

    More games from you.

Before you answer, just go and reread your posts.

You have clearly implied that being prime and undefeated equals greatness.

You do it all the time.

    Literally every week.

Yes, Eubank was a great SMW.

But not when Joe fought him.

    What's wrong with you?

He admits himself that he lost to Schommer and Benn. He was also never the same mentally, after the Watson fight. He'd tell you that himself, along with Barry Hearn.

Regarding fighting Joe, it was an opportunity that he couldn't refuse. But he only had 11 days preparation, as he started camp to fight Mark Prince at LHW. He hadn't made SMW in over two years. He also had bad knees, and he said they hampered him in the fight.

Again, it was a great win for Joe personally. Eubank was up for it, and he wasn't shot. But you're kidding yourself if you think it was something special. He was faded and underprepared. He's said that 11 days wasn't really ideal, he'd had no southpaw sparring, and if he'd have still being with Ronnie back then, he believes that Ronnie wouldn't have let him take the fight.

    Those are facts.

    You can't argue against them.

It was you who called the likes of Veit great. You're kidding yourself.

    Caper,

As far as I'm concerned, there is no argument.

He's the best based on on his overall accomplishments.

But was he the best fighter that ever fought a 168 pounds?

    Not in my opinion.

I can see your point, based on longevity and the solid record of Calzaghe.

However, ranking calzaghe above Roy just does not feel right. We all know prime Roy would have beaten Calzaghe.Add to that the great victory of Roy over James Toney , an ATG who was in his prime and undefeated.calzaghe never beat a great fighter at smw, it is odd to have him NO1.
