Neither throws punches. Malignaggi pushes with an open hand, Calzaghe similarly slaps and has a disconnect between his legs and hands. The only reason Calzaghe ever hurt people was due to his positioning and size.

Well Froch was a former bronze medalist at the World Amateur Boxing Championship so he have some boxing ability which he showed against Abraham and in the rematch against Kessler & Groves. The problem with Carl is that he has a tendency to be very lazy with his jab and await the opponent, but when he choices to be the aggressor and use his jab more often, he can be a good boxer.

I think it was Richie Woodhall who, having succumbed to a stoppage defeat at the hands of Calzaghe, said 'If he slaps, he slaps hard'

But I know what you mean. I often thought that Calzaghe suffered from an image problem; he was not an aesthetically pleasing fighter. He was good, but often he didn't look good doing it - bit slappy, feet all over the shop, a touch ungainly in the ring. Whatever his style was, it wasn't the sweet science.

What does 'disconnect between his legs and hands' mean? I think it is something I get after a few beers :nut

I agree with that. Eubank also said Joe hit hard. Joe didn't have great technique and certainly not textbook technique but the thing is you can still be effective and have some power even with an unorthodox technique. I also think the fact that he was unorthodox helped him, made him more awkward and less predictable.

Joe did throw some slaps but he also threw some punches (sometimes with good technique, sometimes with poor technique and sometimes with his own 'unique' but effective technique).

Did someone actually say Paul Williams? Wow... I second Ponce De Leon. Vic Darchinyan is another pick
